Obama DHS Publishes Instructions for Asylum Loophole on Internet

Posted August 13, 2013

The process for people attempting to enter the country illegally through the Mexican border has often been characterized as grueling, dangerous and even potentially deadly; a trek across smoldering hot deserts led by ruthless 'coyotes' who profit from human suffering.

Meet the new coyotes: immigration attorneys and government rule-writers.

According to the clear guidelines published on the Internet and updated by the Obama administration in mid-June, there's an easier way to cross to gain entrance to the United States: simply step right up to a border crossing and tell the officials that you have a "crediblee fear" of persecution or torture. Use that exact phrasing and you may be able to enter the USA while you await a hearing before an immigration judge…a process that could take years.

Alexander is gearing up for a re-election campaign in 2014 where he expects to get a primary challenge. He used your tax dollars to secure an earmark for a state museum to do an exhibit about himself. Then the museum coordinated with Alexander’s re-election campaign to turn the exhibit into a traveling exhibit over this campaign season.

Lamar Alexander is one of those Republicans who has decided he knows best. And he’s willing to use your tax dollars to profit his own re-election to ensure he can keep telling us what is best.

Mitch McConnell already has a primary challenger who he has been attacking as “Bailout Bevin.” Never mind that Matt Bevin did not start running the bailed out company until after the bailout money had been taken. McConnell, though, as he guided TARP through the United States Senate saw major American banks flood his campaign coffers with donations.

John Cornyn, in Texas, is telling anyone who will listen that he wants to repeal Obamacare and stop it. But he yanked his name off Mike Lee’s defund effort after some arm twisting by Mitch McConnell. Now Cornyn says Mike Lee does not go far enough, but Cornyn won’t go even that far to actually do something.

ObamaCare: Enroll America Targets States With GOP Governors

Posted August 13, 2013

Enroll America, the non-profit leading the effort to enroll Americans in ObamaCare health exchanges, is focusing its resources on 10 states, nine of which have Republican Governors. The only state with a Democrat Governor is Illinois, Obama's home state. All ten states, moreover, are top Democrat targets in 2014. The political landscape of the states targeted may be coincidental, but it is certainly striking.

The states targeted are: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Eight of these states have gubernatorial elections next year.

NC gov. signs voter ID law

Posted August 13, 2013

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed a far-reaching election reform bill into law Monday.

The new law will require voters to present a valid photo ID at the polls, shorten early voting to 10 days, and eliminate pre-registration for 16 and 17 year olds. It also does away with straight ticket voting and same-day registration.

Report: Holder exaggerated DOJ track record on financial fraud

Posted August 13, 2013

The Department of Justice was forced to revise inflated mortgage fraud statistics after an FBI memo revealed that an administration task force greatly overstated the amount of fraud victims, the number of charges filed, and the size of related monetary losses.

Bloomberg reports that the correct numbers were released late Friday from the multi-agency Mortgage Fraud Working Group, a year-long initiative ending in September 2012 and designed to crackdown on mortgage fraud in the United States.

NC Sentinels: Summer Slam to Stop Obamacare

Republicans in Congress promised to stop Obamacare. It can be done. But it won't be done unless we, the grassroots, demand it, as Senator Ted Cruz has said.  The Continuing Resolution will be voted on in September and is our last chance to stop this train wreck.

The August #SummerSlam to #DefundObamacare Continues with THE TSUNAMI

This week we start the "tsunami" of phone calls, emails, tweets, facebook posts and office visits to our members of Congress, giving them the information and determination they need to defund Obamacare in September via the Continuing Resolution.

Ted Cruz asked us for a tsunami - let's give it to him.

Start flooding the offices of our members of Congress and insist they keep their campaign promises, uphold the law, and give us the same protection against the ACA which they have given to themselves. Find your senators and representative here: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

Include House leadership in this flood of contacts - John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy need to hear from all of us as much as our own reps do. Insist they use their power to stop Obamacare now.

GOP Moderates Push Back on Tea Party Spending Cuts

Posted August 12, 2013

Many tenured Republicans, particularly members of the House Appropriations Committee, have viewed Ryan's sweeping cuts as unworkable all along. When more than $4 billion in entirely new cuts came to the House floor in the form of an actual bill for funding transportation and housing programs, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, confronted shaky support from less ardently conservative Republicans and decided to pull the $44 billion package on July 31.

That sparked a frustrated outburst from the committee chairman, Rep. Harold Rogers, R-Ky. He called for abandoning the Ryan budget and starting bipartisan negotiations that would provide appropriators with "a realistic spending level to fund the government in a responsible _ and attainable _ way."

"Attainable" is code for something that can pass the Senate and get signed by President Barack Obama. That's rarely a recipe for tea party fun.

Interior Secretary: I don’t want any climate change deniers in my department

Posted August 12, 2013

Buried in a lengthy Washington Post article about President Obama’s environmental policy is an illuminating anecdote about just how debatable the administration views climate change — namely, not at all:

In an agency-wide address to employees Aug. 1, (Interior Secretary Sally) Jewell took the unusual step of suggesting that no one working for her should challenge the idea that human activity is driving recent warming. “I hope there are no climate-change deniers in the Department of Interior,” she said.

Obama Family Friend Cooperating with Probe of Chicago Corruption Scheme

Posted August 12, 2013

Dr. Eric Whitaker, a close friend of President Barack Obama, has admitted he is cooperating with federal investigators over a probe into a $433,000 kickback scheme at the Illinois Department of Public Health, an agency he once headed.

On August 9, James A. Lewis, the U.S. Attorney for the Illinois Central District, indicted Quinshaunta R. Golden, Whitaker's chief of staff at the Illinois Department of Public Health, on charges of conspiring to divert state funds into her own pockets and then attempting to cover it up.

Quinshaunta Golden is the niece of current U.S. Representative Danny Davis (D-IL) and is the 13th person indicted in the probe involving millions of dollars in state grants.

Of God, Guns and Borders: Cultural Divide Clears Path for Conservatives

Posted August 12, 2013

Conservatives seized on these shifts in 1994 and 2010, taking control of Congress and sweeping state houses across the country. In between those elections, however, establishment Republicans co-opted conservatives and the party drifted. It championed greater federal control of local schools, a new health care entitlement and vastly increased the size of government. It cozied up to big banks and supported a bailout of Wall Street.

In 2008, the party nominated "centrists", one of whom had championed restrictions on free speech and higher taxes, the other who promoted the individual health insurance mandate that became the foundation of ObamaCare. Mitt Romney was seen as a creature of Wall Street and, as a result, millions of working-class voters stayed home on election day.

Joe Straus Attacks Michael Quinn Sullivan and Empower Texans

Posted August 13, 2013

Getting Under Their Skin

In our mission to promote sound fiscal policy by encouraging greater citizen engagement in the political process, we’ve apparently hit a couple sensitive nerves for legislators more intent on representing entrenched lobby interests than working for the people.

We know this because earlier this week two legislators — the tax-hike-promoting State Rep. Vicki Truitt and the underwhelming State Rep. Jim Keffer — allegedly filed ethics complaints against me personally, and against Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. Read more...

Ethical Lapses

About 15 months ago two of House Speaker Joe Straus’ committee chairs filed unfounded “ethics complaints” against me and my organization, seeking to silence us from keeping you informed about state government. This week we learned that the complaints were actually concocted by a lead lobbyist for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association on behalf of Straus’ lieutenants. Read more...

A Most Unethical Commission

It went about how you would have expected. We were in front of a kangaroo court accustomed to operating far outside the sunlight of public review. Thursday night’s “hearing” by the Texas Ethics Commission on the abusive complaints filed as political vendettas by two allies of House Speaker Joe Straus against me and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. The closed-door hearing process was about as far removed from American justice and due process as Beijing is from Washington.

Make no mistake: Speaker Straus and his cronies, State Rep. Jim Keffer and now-defeated State Rep. Vicki Truitt, aren’t really targeting me. They are doing what President Obama, the IRS, and the FEC have been trying to do: silence anyone who disagrees with them. Read more...

Do Local Elections Matter?

Posted August 13, 2013

Yes, Texas, local elections do matter.

As mentioned in a previous article highlighting Irving’s tax-payer funded giveaway, Texas has the second highest local debt per person ($7,500), more than California ($6,469), a state drunk on lavish public pensions and rock-star living standards.  Accordingly to the Texas State Comptroller, our debt albatross is primarily driven by public education K-12 spending…No, the expenditures have nothing to do with teacher’s pay.

Local politics may not be ‘partisan’ (cue audience laughter), but it sure is expensive.

Those Americans who actually pay attention to politics rarely follow political issues outside those in national media headlines.  Many can’t name their federal Senators; even fewer can name their Representative.  And for those who can, only a small minority know their state legislators.  Rounding off the bottom of obscure government officials are those elected at the county and local level.  These races have become shamefully irrelevant voters; only 2-4% typically weigh in.

Harmful legacy created with Texas-sized local government debt, spending

Posted August 13, 2013

Engaged Americans are worried about Washington ignoring our country’s long-term financial health and creating obstacles to personal prosperity through the federal debt, endless government spending and ever-threatening higher tax rates. While legitimate issues, local governments creating similar dangers prompt few Texans to address these issues in their own communities much less to tell local officials “no to more spending, no to more debt – not for us, not for our kids!”

Ratliff’s SBOE squatter status, CSCOPE advocacy: serving Texans’ interests or lobbying clients?

Posted August 13, 2013

While CSCOPE,  the controversial curriculum management system developed at taxpayer expense by Texas Regional Education Service Centers (ESCs) and used by approximately 875 public, private and charter schools, was the subject of a Sunday Austin American-Statesman op-ed debate between Texas director of Americans for Prosperity Peggy Venable and registered lobbyist/State Board of Education (SBOE) member Thomas Ratliff, it also highlighted the more interesting question regarding the interests Ratliff truly is seeking to serve.

Ted Cruz: Media ‘in love’ with Hillary Clinton

Posted August 12, 2013

AMES, Iowa — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) said Saturday that he thinks the mainstream media are “in love” with former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, but declined to say whether he backs the Republican National’s Committee’s threat to exclude NBC and CNN from the 2016 GOP primary debates if they don’t pull the plug on plans to produce films about her.

“I don’t think anybody is surprised to discover that the mainstream media are in love with Hillary Clinton. And indeed I would expect both of those movies to be released on Valentine’s Day,” Cruz told reporters.

Ted Cruz asks Iowa evangelical activists to text him their cellphone numbers

Posted August 12, 2013

AMES 08/10/13 – Take out your cellphones right now, Republican Ted Cruz told Christian conservatives in Iowa this afternoon.

"If you're willing to help tell the story about how freedom works, how it produces opportunity, I ask you to text the word 'growth' to 33733," he said.

Cruz, a born-again Christian who is considered a possible 2016 presidential candidate, watched as the crowd of about 1,000 dutifully sent the text, connecting their cellphone numbers to what he said is a call for a grassroots uprising.

"God bless the Family Leader. God bless Bob Vander Plaats," Cruz said, referring to the organizer of today's Family Leadership Summit. "What a tremendous voice for life, for marriage, for returning to our founding principles."

Sen. Ted Cruz Blasts Anti-Religious Freedom Ordinance

Posted August 9, 2013 ~ Texas Values

As we noted last week, outrage continues to build in San Antonio, in Texas, and across the nation about a proposed ordinance by the San Antonio City Council that would create an unprecedented attack on religious liberty, particularly for Christians. This week U.S. Senator Ted Cruz released a statement blasting the proposed ordinance and calling on Texans to stand up for their religious freedom:

“Any attempt to bar an individual from public service based on a personal religious conviction is contrary to the liberties guaranteed us under our constitution and should be emphatically opposed. It is encouraging to see so many Texans standing up to defend their religious freedoms in light of the misguided proposal put forth by the local city council.” – Sen. Ted Cruz.

We thank Senator Cruz for taking a bold stand against this unconstitutional proposal and for encouraging Texans to defend their fundamental rights. The proposed ordinance contains some of the most blatant and unprecedented violations of the religious freedom of Texans that we have ever seen. Any form of this ordinance is a major threat to the religious liberty of everyone in San Antonio. Read more.

Wendy Davis is Abortion Barbie #abortionbarbie

Posted August 7, 2013

The left is in a tizzy on twitter for my referring to pink shoes wearing Texas State Senator Wendy Davis as “Abortion Barbie.”

It sums her up perfectly. All the nation knows about Wendy Davis is that she is ignorant of the horrors of Kermit Gosnell, wears pink shoes, and filibustered legislation to save the innocent in Texas. She joined the long line of Democrats before her to oppose legislation to protect other people while using property rights arguments to do so.

The media would prefer to focus on her blonde hair, her great outfits, and her pink shoes than on the procedure she wants to protect. That procedure, late term abortion, is opposed by a majority of women and men.

Abortion Barbie fits perfectly and I hope that moniker haunts her on the campaign trail.

TX GOP Congressman Stalls Benghazi Probe!

Outrage Alert!

Posted August 6, 2013

Filed 8.5.13 by JoAnn Fleming, Grassroots America

Grassroots America has learned from our friends in the Dallas area that Republican Congressman Pete Sessions is using his leadership position to prevent a floor vote on a Select Committee on Benghazi.  Members of the Dallas area TEA Parties have brought the issue up multiple times, but Rep. Sessions refuses to relent.

It is especially maddening to find out that Republicans in House leadership positions seem to be working as hard as the Obama Administration to keep the American people from the truth!

Seven hundred military special operations professionals have signed an open letter calling for the establishment of a House Select Committee to fully investigate the murders. Over three-quarters of the House Republican caucus (163) have joined the public call for a House Select Committee. Sadly, Speaker John Boehner's ally - Rep. Pete Sessions - has been using his position as Rules Chairman to prevent the resolution from even receiving a vote! The resolution has been stuck in Pete Sessions' Rules Committee since January!  Source:  See Conservatives move to force Boehner’s hand for Benghazi investigation, The Hill, July 22, 2013 http://thehill.com/blogs/global-affairs/terrorism/312539-conservatives-seek-to-put-pressure-on-boehner-with-60-foot-long-benghazi-petition

In the video below, Rep. Frank Wolf lays out the case for a Select Committee on Benghazi. Watch it, then call Pete Sessions!

Call Congressman Session's offices today and ask the questions "Why won't Rep. Sessions support a full investigation into the four Americans who were murdered in Benghazi?  Why won't Representative Sessions stand up for the grieving families who lost their loved ones as our government turned its back on them?"

Let Pete Session know that although you don't live in his district, you will support a challenger for Congressman Sessions if he is too cowardly to stand up for our military. Tell him to allow a floor vote on House Resolution 36 to authorize a House Select Committee on Benghazi!
