Obama administration officials threatened whistle-blowers on Benghazi, lawyer says

Posted April 30, 2013

At least four career officials at the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency have retained lawyers or are in the process of doing so, as they prepare to provide sensitive information about the Benghazi attacks to Congress, Fox News has learned.

Victoria Toensing, a former Justice Department official and Republican counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, is now representing one of the State Department employees. She told Fox News her client and some of the others, who consider themselves whistle-blowers, have been threatened by unnamed Obama administration officials.

“I'm not talking generally, I'm talking specifically about Benghazi – that people have been threatened,” Toensing said in an interview Monday. “And not just the State Department. People have been threatened at the CIA.”

Pigford Fraud Workshop Still Draws Huge Crowds After NYT Exposé

Posted April 30, 2013

On Friday, April 26th, the New York Times ran a front page exposé on the Pigford farmers settlement scandal. The Times article ended with the story of Tom Burrell, the head of a group called the Black Farmers Agricultural Association, who still travels around the country giving workshops allegedly instructing people how to commit undetectable fraud in the farmers settlements and receive tax free checks for $50,000.

The Times article closed with this quote from Mr. Burrell:
He closed with a rousing exhortation: “Let’s get the judge to go to work writing them checks! They have just opened the bank vault.”

Rep. King: 'Gang of 8' Immigration Plan is Not Conservative

Posted April 30, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – Representative Steve King (R-Iowa), a member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration & Border Security, said the immigration reform plan crafted by the “Gang of Eight” in the Senate and promoted strongly by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is nothing more than a “bold amnesty plan” that is “not very conservative” despite advertisements claiming otherwise.

King, a conservative, was interviewed on CSPAN’s Washington Journal on Apr. 25 about immigration reform. During the interview, host Greta Wodele Brawner showed one of the television ads in support of the Gang of Eight plan that is being promoted by the Mark Zuckerberg-backed group “Americans for a Conservative Direction.” Zuckerberg is the founder of Facebook.

Illinois Sheriff Sued for Refusal to Honor ICE Immigration Detainers

Posted April 30, 2013

From the beginning, the Obama administration has made the claim that the “selective deportation” scheme it initiated did not apply to dangerous criminals. Only peace-loving, law abiding illegal aliens would be allowed a stay of deportation proceedings, they explained.

But how is this permissive deportation policy working “on the ground” in municipalities across the country? Let’s consider Cook County, Illinois.

Judicial Watch recently filed a lawsuit in the Cook County Circuit Court challenging Sheriff Tom Dart’s refusal to honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immigration detainers or cooperate with ICE in identifying criminal illegal immigrants for deportation. Cook County jails have released as many as 1,000 criminal illegal aliens sought by ICE in the past 18 months alone.

And are any of these individuals dangerous? You bet.

Colorado Violates Federal Law With Passage Of In-State Tuition Rate For Illegal Immigrants

Posted April 30, 2013

Colorado’s orchestrated shift from 46 years of Republican rule to a progressive “utopia” where Democrats can use the state as a testing ground for policy gained more ground today:

Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed legislation Monday to grant in-state tuition for students in the country illegally who graduate from Colorado high schools.

The in-state rate is one-third the amount out-of-state students pay.

It’s called the ASSET bill, which stands for Advancing Students for a Stronger Economy Tomorrow.

To qualify for in-state tuition under the new law, the students are required to have attended a Colorado high school for three years and have to apply to a college in our state within 12 months. Graduates who have been in Colorado continuously for 18 months are also eligible to receive the in-state tuition rate.

Out-of-state students and those citizens in Colorado who don’t meet in-state tuition requirements are understandably upset: this means they will shoulder the burden of higher costs so those who break the law get a break.

Manchin says he's working to get another Senate vote on gun background check

Posted April 29, 2013

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said Sunday he’s not finished with his effort to expand background checks for gun buyers, despite the proposal’s defeat and other key senators appearing to now move beyond the issue.

Manchin told “Fox News Sunday” that he’s going to rework the proposal to get it back to the Senate floor.

"I believe that with all of my heart, and we're going to work this bill,” he told Fox News.

Even Big Labor Unions Drop Support For Obamacare

Posted April 29, 2013

Health Care Politics: As ObamaCare rolls out, some of its biggest backers from labor to D.C. lawmakers are having second thoughts. It's a sign that the idea of ending this national nightmare isn't about to go away.
Late last week, the 22,000-member United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers dropped a bombshell on the Obama administration, not only withdrawing its support for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, but also demanding its repeal.

The reason: ObamaCare subsidizes low-paid non-union workers in small companies that don't insure their employees, while leaving union shops with ObamaCare's higher health care costs and a 40% tax on Cadillac plans by 2018. That's a "death warrant" for unions, as the Atlantic's Megan McArdle noted.

Rubio hit hard after inviting comments on immigration bill

Posted April 29, 2013

A visit to the “Help Us Improve the Bill” page shows the senator has posted just 147 out of the 1,100 suggestions he has so far received.  Rubio’s staff is reviewing each one — a wise move, given the emotions that the immigration issue can involve and the tendency of some people to say nasty things on the Internet.  But even after screening for foul language and general content, the suggestions Rubio has so far received are remarkably negative.  Actually, they are overwhelmingly, crushingly negative, criticizing a wide spectrum of issues included in the Gang of Eight bill.  The commenters Rubio has invited to speak really, really, really don’t like what he has done.

“This amnesty bill is awful and you should back away from it as you promised you would,” says the very first suggestion, setting the tone for what is to come.

“Here’s how to improve the bill,” says another. “KILL IT.” “The only way to improve this bill is to chuck it into the garbage can,” says another.  “We cannot believe you are so naive to believe that this bill would work.” “My suggestion is a simple one,” says another.  “Throw out this bill and enforce our current immigration laws.”

“NO, NO, NO,” says yet another.

With Bags of Cash, C.I.A. Seeks Influence in Afghanistan

Posted April 29, 2013

KABUL, Afghanistan — For more than a decade, wads of American dollars packed into suitcases, backpacks and, on occasion, plastic shopping bags have been dropped off every month or so at the offices of Afghanistan’s president — courtesy of the Central Intelligence Agency.

All told, tens of millions of dollars have flowed from the C.I.A. to the office of President Hamid Karzai, according to current and former advisers to the Afghan leader.
“We called it ‘ghost money,’ ” said Khalil Roman, who served as Mr. Karzai’s deputy chief of staff from 2002 until 2005. “It came in secret, and it left in secret.”

Interview: King Vows to 'Pull out the Real Truth' About Pigford

Posted April 29, 2013

Iowa Republican Representative Steve King has been sounding the alarm about fraud in the Pigford black farmers' settlement for close to a decade and has been ruthlessly attacked by settlement advocates as well as nearly every media outlet that covered the story.

When the April 26h edition of the New York Times broke a front-page story about fraud in the settlements that also revealed new details about the direct involvement of President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, it was a major development in the multi-billion dollar scandal and signaled the beginning of a new era of investigation into Pigford.

Breitbart News spoke exclusively with the tenacious congressman who also strongly hinted that he would call for hearings into Pigford and the other politically motivated farmers' settlements.

No Union Label on Twinkie Return

Posted April 29, 2013

Buried amid the generally gloomy news last week was a development that is a true cause for celebration. By July, the Twinkie, and other favorite Hostess brands will return to store shelves. Two investment companies bought assets of the bankrupt snack company and plan to re-open four plants and hire 1,500 workers in the coming weeks. Labor unions, however, will not be invited back.

McCain, Schumer Say Gun Control Will Get Another Vote This Year

Posted April 26, 2013

In comments made on April 25, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) both said they were saddened gun control didn't pass on April 17 but assured reporters the measures would be brought up for another vote some time this year.

"I think we will bring the bill back before the end of the year... lots of Senators who thought it was safe to vote against it [on April 17] because of the intensity [pro-gun groups] are not so sure anymore," Schumer said.

Schumer said the intensity for gun control has increased since the failed vote for gun control legislation, and he thinks Americans are now "intense" in their desire for more gun control.

Ted Cruz mocks Senate Republican ‘squishes’

Posted April 30, 2013

In an appearance at a tea party rally Friday, freshman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) offered a rare look inside Senate vote-jockeying – and took a rare shot at his fellow Republican lawmakers.

Speaking of the recent debate over gun control, Cruz told the audience at a FreedomWorks summit in Texas that the issue “generated more heat” inside the party than any other in recent memory. There were several lunches, he revealed, where fellow Republicans confronted him and his allies “yelling at us at the top of their lungs.”

Along with Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), Cruz put out a letter threatening to filibuster Democratic gun legislation. Republican senators were upset, Cruz said, by town hall attendees demanding they join the effort.

A Day in the Life of Louie Gohmert

Posted April 30, 2013

On Wednesday April 24, The Daily Caller spent a whole day with Louis Gohmert, the rib-making, baseball-playing, red-meat slinging former Texas judge who now represents Texas’ 1st Congressional District. From the baseball field, to a car ride with he and Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, to a couple of television hits, I shadowed him. Here’s an hour-by-hour breakdown of what I saw:

6:30 a.m.: Baseball Practice

It’s Wednesday and Louis Gohmert is at Simpson Stadium in Alexandria, Va. — “Home of the Titans” — for the GOP’s first practice for the summer baseball game against congressional Democrats.

Gohmert has played in every baseball clash between Democrats and Republicans since he joined Congress in 2005 with the exception of one, due to injury. During one of those games, Gohmert says he tore his ACL when he collided with former Democratic California Rep. Joe Baca at home plate in an effort to score.

Online sales tax bill may be dead on arrival in House

Posted April 30, 2013

The online sales tax bill will face an uphill battle in the Republican-dominated House of Representatives, despite broad bipartisan support in the Senate.

The Marketplace Fairness Act, which will allow states the authority to collect sales taxes from online retailers outside of their state, is scheduled for a vote in the Senate in early May and is expected to pass. The fast tracking that it experienced in the Senate, however, is unlikely to be replicated in the House.

So far, Republican leadership has shown little interest in championing the issue of online sales taxation.

“A Boehner spokesman deferred to House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), whose panel has jurisdiction over the online sales tax bill, and a spokesman for Cantor, Doug Heye, said only: ‘We’ll review what the Senate sends over,’” The Hill reported.

The issue has split Republicans, who typically stand firm in their resolution against tax increases. While the conservative Heritage Foundation and anti-tax-hike Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) have held firm in their opposition against what they call a tax increase, other Republicans argue it is an issue of states’ rights and tax fairness.

Tea Party Senators Prep for Immigration Battle

Posted April 29, 2013

Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) now each appear to be positioning themselves in the fight against the push for the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill in much the same way the Senate’s Tea Party triumvirate knocked down the left’s push for new gun control legislation.

The three are joining Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) in questioning every painstaking detail of the bill, and reframing the narrative that those in favor of the legislation have driven including the need for a “path to citizenship” for America’s at least 11 million illegal immigrants and that the bill is tough on securing the border. Together, the group is using every tool at its disposal in the Senate--public pressure, process disputes and aggressive oversight procedures, among others--to fight against the legislation.

Rep. Louie Gohmert: ‘So Many Muslim Brotherhood Members’ Influencing Obama Admin. to Ignore Radical Islam Threat

Posted April 29, 2013

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) this week accused the Obama administration of being influenced by members of the Muslim Brotherhood into ignoring that the threat from radical Islam.

In an interview with the conservative World Net Daily, Gohmert said that particularly in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, “it’s very clear to everybody but this administration that radial Islam is at war against us.”

“I’m hoping either this administration will wake up or a new one will come in in the next election before irreparable damage is done because radical Islam is at war with us,” Gohmert repeated. “This administration has so many Muslim Brotherhood members that have influence that they just are making wrong decisions for America.”

Friday, May 3, 2013, 7:00 – 9:30 pm

Fellowship Bible Church Dallas
9330 North Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75231

This eye-opening documentary feature film investigates the “smart” meter program currently being implemented worldwide by most of the major utility companies.  These devices are being installed often without the consent – and sometimes against the protests – of property owners.  The film uncovers alarming issues about health, privacy, property rights, corporate fraud, and the unprecedented vulnerability of the “smart” grid.  Hear from such experts as Bill Vander Zalm (former Premier of British Columbia, CA), Dr. David O. Carpenter (Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at University at Albany), B. Blake Levitt (an award-winning science journalist), and many others.  You will gain a deeper understanding of the political and economic forces behind the “smart meter” agenda, as well as resources and proven solutions for how you can protect yourself, your family, your home, and your rights.

The 90-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion.

Admission is free but donations are requested to help cover the room rental and support the worldwide release of the film.
