GOP Leaders Again Break Pledge to Post Bills 72 Hrs Before Vote: Pass 574-Page Senate CR

Posted March 22, 2013

(CNSNews.com) - The House Republican leadership on Thursday again violated a pledge they made to the nation back in 2010 that if they regained control of the House of Representatives they would put “all pieces of legislation” online for at least 72 hours before bringing them up for a vote.

On Wednesday at 4:29 p.m., the Senate passed a 574-page continuing resolution that will fund the federal government for the rest of fiscal year 2013. This 574-page continuing resolution differed from the 269-page version of the continuing resolution (H.R. 933) that the House had passed back on March 6. Nonetheless, the House Republican leadership brought the Senate language up for a vote in the House at 10:54 a.m. on Thursday--only 18 hours and 15 minutes after it passed the Senate.

Senate Republicans Willfully and Knowingly Lie to Their Constituents

Posted March 22, 2013

Last night, having noted the list of Republicans in the Senate who voted to fund Obamacare in yesterday’s Morning Briefing, I went through a series of emails from readers.

Readers from Texas, Kentucky, Utah, South Dakota, and Georgia all had the same story. They’d called the offices of Senators Chambliss, Cornyn, Hatch, Thune, McConnell, and Isakson to object to those senators funding Obamacare. They were all told by these Senate offices that these Senators had voted to defund Obamacare or, in the case of Senator Cornyn’s office, that there had been no vote on defunding Obamacare.
These Senators and their staffs are lying. They voted to fund Obamacare. More troubling, they know they did it.

Yesterday, on the floor of the Senate, Mitch McConnell again said, “Obamacare is a colossal mistake for our country. . . . We need to start all over. This bill needs to be repealed and it needs to be replaced. . . . And anyone who thinks we’ve given up this fight is dead wrong.”

It’s similar to what he said at CPAC. I am sure he will keep on saying it.

But, Senator McConnell and a sizable portion of the Republican Conference voted to fund Obamacare and now they are lying about doing so.

Senate votes down Ryan budget, balanced budget requirement

Posted March 22, 2013

The Senate defeated the House Republican budget Thursday evening, with five Republican senators joining Democrats in voting against it.

The budget, authored by House budget committee chairman Paul Ryan, would balance the budget in 10 years through a combination of cuts to entitlement programs and non-defense discretionary spending. It passed in the House earlier on Thursday.

The Ryan budget was proposed as an amendment by a Democrat, Senate budget committee chair Patty Murray. The goal was to force Republicans to take a stance on a budget that Democrats see as unpopular and politically problematic. No Republican proposed the Ryan budget as an amendment.

Obama quotes Alinsky in speech to young Israelis

Posted March 22, 2013

In his address in Jerusalem today, President Obama channeled Saul Alinsky, citing the radical community organizer’s defining mantra as he urged young Israelis to “create change” to nudge their leadership to act.

Obama told a crowd of college students at Jerusalem’s main convention center that Israel “has the wisdom to see the world as it is, but also the courage to see the world as it should be.”

One of Alinsky’s major themes was working with the world as it “is” to turn it into the world as “it should be.”

In his defining work, “Rules for Radicals,” which he dedicated to “the first rebel,” Lucifer, Alinsky used those words to lay out his main agenda. He asserted radical change must be brought about by working within a system instead of attacking it from the outside.

“It is necessary to begin where the world is if we are going to change it to what we think it should be. That means working in the system,” wrote Alinsky.

As Air Traffic Control Towers Close, FAA Hiring ‘Community Planners’

Posted March 22, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – As the Federal Aviation Administration is set to announce Friday the temporary closure of 238 air traffic control towers because of the sequester, the agency is planning to hire “community planners” paid in excess of $100,000 – one at an airport slated to for a possible tower closure.

Funding for the community planners is exempt from sequestration, while funding for air traffic control towers are not exempt from reduced funding, according to the FAA.

Senate Dems and GOP set to repeal Obamacare tax

Posted March 22, 2013

Nine Senate Democrats — in a break with the party policy of blocking efforts to tinker with Obamacare — have joined with Republican colleagues to repeal a tax levied by President Obama’s health care overhaul.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., have introduced an amendment to the budget resolution to repeal the medical device tax.

“This will cost device manufacturers roughly $194 million per month and put 43,000 American jobs at risk,” Hatch said of the medical device tax yesterday after saying that “heading into its three-year anniversary, we know that ObamaCare will lead to higher health care costs, fewer jobs, and smaller paychecks for American families.” The third anniversary of the law is this Saturday.

Republicans have held several show votes to repeal all or part of Obamacare, but this amendment has enough Democratic co-sponsors to get it across the finish line.

Group Seeking Sheriff Joe Recall Out of Money, Momentum

Posted March 22, 2013

Opponents of Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio who are seeking to recall him have run out of money.

According to the Arizona Republic, organizers of the campaign to recall Arpaio announced on Wednesday they will rely solely on volunteers to collect signatures because they do not have the money to pay Arizonans to gather the 335,317 signatures needed for the effort.

Two weeks ago, the anti-Arpaio group announced it had collected 120,000 signatures. The deadline to get the rest of the signatures is May 30.

An Arizona Democratic strategist said there was "recall fatigue," and another indicated there was not much enthusiasm to recall Arpaio, even among Democrats.

Former USDA Employee: Pigford Fraud Was Widely Known Inside Department

Posted March 22, 2013

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Helena Pitcock, a former USDA employee who was with the agency for 32 years and who worked as a farm loan manager, says that knowledge of massive fraud in the Pigford 'black farmers' settlement program was widely known inside the agency.

This admission comes among other blockbuster revelations about the multi-billion dollar stealth reparations scheme that Breitbart News has exposing for several years, including a description of how the Pigford scheme was kept alive by Senator Barack Obama in 2007.

The Pitcock interview is one of the first times that a former USDA official has gone on the record to the discuss the massive fraud in Pigford.

Texas HCR 77 ~ A New Path to Victory

Posted March 22, 2013

I write this as a constitutional conservative for constitutional conservatives. Victory, therefore, can only be defined as the restoration of individual liberty through the smallest and least intrusive government possible. Historically and logically this requires government to be small and subject to local control. Centralizing governmental authority is antithetical to this principle and to the founders’ vision. For Texans, HCR 77 is a good first and logical step in this restorative process.

HCR 77 is simply a statement of principle. It asserts that Texans and the State of Texas reserve for themselves all the powers not specifically granted to the US federal government in the US Constitution, or prohibited to both the states and the people in the US Constitution. This is consistent with both the Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Texas which was accepted and authorized by the US government as a condition of Texas’ re-entry into the Union after the Civil War.

We Must Take Care of Our Own

Congressional Staff:  There is no way a new member, even a really sharp one, can stay on top of every issue and political dynamic in a way that will keep him/her abreast of all the potential pitfalls.  I can’t understate the value of a staff that shares the goals and ideology of the member.

Unfortunately, there is a dearth of staffers with the requisite knowledge of the legislative process who share our values.  Many of those who work on the campaigns of tea partiers are not prepared to serve on The Hill, forcing some new members to staff their offices with establishment/K Street types.  That is a recipe for turning an insurgent member into a drifter.  Conservative organizations need to do a better job of recommending staff choices to our new members before leadership gets ahold of them.  Campaign staff should also reach out to conservatives immediately following the election before the freshmen orientation.

As hard as it is to elect conservatives, it is even harder to keep them within the fold and out of the meat grinder.  If we expect them to fight for us, we must be willing to fight for them.

URGENT: Are Texas Republicans Prepared to Support Citizenship for Illegals?

Posted March 21, 2013

Take ActionAccording to TheHill.com, the U.S. House Republicans are working in secret with the House Democrats on a "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" bill that will include citizenship for illegal aliens:

A group of eight lawmakers — four Republicans and four Democrats — has been meeting privately to craft a comprehensive immigration overhaul, and they told Boehner and other Republican leaders last week that they were close to a deal.

They’re essentially in agreement over how to proceed,” Boehner told reporters at a press conference...

The House group has kept a tight lid on details of the legislation they are drafting, but Hoyer said it would include a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., which is perhaps the most contentious issue in the immigration debate.

As noted, these discussions are being conducted under a high level of secrecy:

The House immigration group has received far less attention than its counterpart in the Senate, in part because of its members’ own desire for secrecy.

The idea of secret backroom negotiatiions deciding the outcome of such a highly-contentious issue should trouble any American.

The article above doesn't identify the Republican members of the secret committee, but they are apparently negotiating with the support of the House Republicans.  This begs the question: where do Texans stand?

We just called the offices of one Texas Republican, a member of the House leadership, who informed us that the congressman had no comment on support or opposition to citizenship for illegal aliens.  Friends, this was a Texas Republican.

If you don't know exactly where your congressman stands on citizenship for illegal aliens, this would be a very good time to find out EXACTLY where your congressman stands and to let him or her know exactly where you stand:

U.S. House Switchboard : (202) 224-3121

PLEASE NOTE : Nothing goes to the floor of the House without the support of the House Rules Committee, led by Chairman Pete Sessions.  If you are in Chairman Sessions' district, it is particularly important that you let him know where you stand on this issue.  Sessions can stop a citizenship proposal, or move it forward.

Texas School Choice Action Items - FreedomWorks

Posted March 21, 2013

The Texas legislature is considering several school choice bills that will need your help to get out of committee and empower children across the state. Two of these bills, SB 2 and SB 1575, will go a long way toward bringing real options to the children of our state. Educational choice is a proven model that brings accountability and better standards to learning institutions.

Click here to call Speaker Joe Straus and the members of the House and Senate Education committees. Tell them to vote for school choice legislation like SB 2 and SB 1575.

Texas Senator and friend of liberty Ted Cruz calls school choice “the civil rights issue of the next generation." He’s right. But we don’t have to wait until the next generation -- let’s bring choice to Texas today!

Call members of the Education Committees and Speaker of the House Joe Strauss now.

We have a chance to bring choice and opportunity in education to Texas families. Let’s not waste it!
