A RINO Trifecta
by Jan Shedd- June 20, 2011
All of the polling of the GOP candidates regularly places Willard Mitt Romney at the top. Will he be our nominee? It’s too soon to tell. But if he can keep the momentum going, barring unforeseen developments, he may well be the 2012 Republican nominee for president. If he is, I will work for his election, and vote for him. But I will do so with grievous disappointment. In the last two primaries, we nominated Bush II & John McCain. Now we want Willard? Why? To complete a RINO* trifecta? Romney claims to be a conservative, but in Massachusetts, (where he comes from), “conservative” is a relative term. What are we to make of the following contradictions?
Abortion
In 1994, Mitt said, “Roe V. Wade has been the law for 20 years. We should sustain and support it.”
In 2002, he said “Let me make this very clear: I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose.”
But in 2005, he stated, “I am pro-life. I believe that abortion is the wrong choice except in cases of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother,” & in 2006 he said, “Roe VS. Wade does not serve the country well and is another example of judges making the law instead of interpreting the Constitution.”
Same-Sex Marriage
1994: Romney wrote to the Log Cabin Republicans** “As we seek to establish full equality” for gays, “I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent,” who happened at the time to be none other than Ted-the-Swimmer-Kennedy!
2005: “From Day One, I have opposed the move for same-sex marriage.”
2006: “In order to protect the institution of marriage, we must prevent it from being redefined by judges like those here in Massachusetts.”
Gun Control
2002: “We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts. I support them. I won’t chip away at them.” Romney signed the nation’s first state-level, assault-weapons ban.
2007: “I have a gun of my own. I’m a member of the National Rifle Association, and believe firmly in the right to bear arms.”
Big Government Medicine
In April of 2006, Governor Romney bragged in an editorial in the Wall Street Journal about his great achievement in solving the medical-care-availability problem for the un- or underinsured of Massachusetts. He took full credit for its passage, claiming that he himself wrote it. It was supported by Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, FamiliesUSA, and the SEIU, yeah—Barry’s SEIU (think ACORN).
By August of the same year, it became apparent that budget-busting Romneycare would cost taxpayers much, much more than predicted. Premiums were originally touted to be an “affordable” $250 a month. But approximately a year later, that figure had ballooned to $380 per month. And Massachusetts’ citizens are required by law to purchase it! My guess is that this has caused doctors to flee Massachusetts, making health care less accessible for everyone but the elites, like Mitt and his family.
Oh, and did I mention that he believes in the man-made global warming hoax? As of right now, he does not think that cap and trade is the way to address it. But in his case, that could turn on a dime before the sun goes down today.
So who’s the real Mitt? The real Mitt is an ambitious politician who wants more than anything to get elected. What kind of a president would he make? Look at his record. As governor of an extremely liberal state, he was very popular. Knowing liberals, how do you suppose he pulled that off? There’s no question that Mitt would be a huge improvement over Barak Obama, but so would Lucifer, and we sure don’t want him in the White House! Obama has done immeasurable damage to this country. Some of it we know about, much of it we don’t. It REALLY MATTERS who our next president is. We have to get this right. Where Romney stands on an issue depends entirely on to whom he is speaking, and what office he is running for at the time. He has more flip-flops than WalMart. Pre-Tea Party, we nominated and voted for two RINOs. Now that there is a Tea Party, why would we support a pseudo-conservative like Romney?? Surely we can do better. This country needs a genuine conservative in the White House. If anyone cares, my top picks for president are Bachmann, & Santorum. I think Cain would make an excellent VP. See? We can do better than Romney. I pray we do.
