Are You a TEA Party Patriot? (Part 1)

Are You a TEA Party Patriot?
Are You a TEA Party Patriot?

As a proud TEA Party Patriot, I am often asked just what does the TEA Party movement really stand for?  By the time you finish reading this series of articles, I hope that you will have your own understanding as to what the TP movement could and should mean to you and that you will consider joining us and adding your voice to those of the other TEA Partiers across the country who want to “Take our Country Back”!

The media paints TEA Partiers as racists, bigots, mobsters, and a multitude of other less than pleasant terms designed to demonize us as anything other than what we truly are.  Well, I’m here to tell you that I’m a pretty typical “teabagger”, and I am not a racist, a bigot, and definitely not a mobster of any sort.  What I am is a Christian, a conservative, a wife, a mother, a small business owner, a gun-owner, and an English speaking taxpayer who considers herself blessed to have been born in the USA and raised with the basic values of God, home, and country.

I was taught early on that being an American is a privilege – a privilege that was bought and paid for with the blood and guts of our military veterans, and it is those very veterans who I pray for and thank daily for their courage and unfailing valor – even when it means receiving little gratitude upon their return home or worse yet, paying for my freedom with the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives.  Thank you to our military personnel – both veterans and those currently serving across the globe.

When I was young, I was also taught that you honor the American flag and never, ever allow a flag of any other foreign country to rise above my Stars & Stripes in my own country!  I was taught that if you wanted to make something of yourself, you went to school, you got a job, and you earned the rewards of your labors – you didn’t look to the government for an entitlement, a handout, or a bailout.  I never was allowed to ask someone else to bear the burdens of my poor choices and the resulting poor consequences that I brought on myself, and I certainly never broke into anyone’s home or country and then expected society to forgive my criminal activity by chalking it up to “political correctness”.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve just about had all I can stand of the societal crutch named “political correctness”, because there is simply nothing “correct” about abusing taxpayers, legal citizens, small business owners, and productive members of society while rewarding underachievers, freeloaders, and illegal immigrants at taxpayer expense.

I was also raised to believe that you obeyed the Bible, your parents, your teachers, and that the ultimate goal of becoming a proud American citizen was to use good judgment and common sense to become a productive member of society by earning a living, paying my fair share of taxes, stepping up to take responsibility for my own actions, and becoming a parent to raise yet another generation of proud Americans.  Why do I share my background with you?  Only because something in our mutual backgrounds might mean that you and I are similar and that we might share similar visions and goals for our own children’s and grandchildren’s future of health and prosperity – both of which are in danger now with the current political atmosphere. And, I have found like-minded Patriots in the TEA Party movement who are willing to put forth the effort to overcome the imminent threat that faces us as we watch our beloved America stray further and further away from the God-given blessings and the conservative values that shaped our childhoods and helped form a nation founded on and dedicated to limited government, free enterprise, and fiscal responsibility.

The TEA Party movement is simply a non-partisan group of hard-working, tax-paying, patriotic, legal Americans who vow to put principle above party and to peaceably work towards a return to the core values our Founding Fathers outlined in our Constitution. Does this sound like you?  If you are still unsure as to whether you share TEA Party values, look for Part 2 of this article next week, where I will ask you a series of questions designed to help you decide if you are indeed a TEA Party Patriot.
