In a January 25 tweet, President Trump wrote that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, popularly known as AOC, is “dumb as a rock”.
The comment has provoked a rebuttal from the International Association of Oceanic Fossickers (IAOF).
In Australia and New Zealand the activities of amateur geologists are often called fossicking. Rock hounds, by another name.
Fossicker Clubs throughout those Oceanic nations is a popular outlet for amateur geologists who search for rock specimens and compare their findings in groups as a serious hobby.
World famous earth scientist and avid fossicker, Dr Roy Woodall, was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1988. He received the Academy’s Mawson Medal in 1984, the Haddon Forrester King Medal in 1993, and the Ian Wark Medal in 1996.
Dr. Woodall is a widely recognized as a world-class expert on rocks.
As a former President of the IAOF, Dr. Woodall took exception to President Trump’s characterization of AOC as being “dumb as a rock”.
He said, “In my lifetime, I’ve examined hundreds of thousands of rocks, and I can say, without a doubt, that I’ve found many rocks that were much brighter than AOC.”
