Fighting a hostile takeover of freedom’s party

by Matt Kibbe

"Learn a little bit more about how business has been done in the Congress of the United States.”

Those were the words of advice given by senior Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to junior Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) during last May’s debt ceiling debate. It’s a provocative suggestion, considering that traditional congressional business practices have led us into almost $17 trillion in debt, unfunded liabilities several times that amount and a congressional approval rating that hovers around 9 percent.

Business as usual in Washington has failed the American people, and it’s time to clean house.

In the corporate world, a “takeover” is the act of correcting dysfunctional business practices and replacing failed management. It’s an attempt to salvage a company in distress, driven into the ground by complacent bureaucrats and growing debt.

A takeover is not instigated by a small minority of outsiders but, rather, by a majority of the shareholders. The transition of power turns “hostile” when the entrenched management regime strikes back, more concerned with preserving its own power than advancing a vision to produce something of value.

Sound familiar?

Cuccinelli Only the Latest Conservative Candidate Targeted by G.O.P.

By Lee Cary

The Republican establishment continues to undercut the campaigns of conservative candidates.  Ken Cuccinelli was just the latest.

In early 2013, a Texas-based Tea Party website posted a series of articles that documented how the G.O.P. establishment, at the county, state and national levels, had worked against six candidates supported by Tea Party organizations -- five running for House seats, and one G.O.P. nominee for a U.S. Senate seat.

A seventh case detailed how the Chair of the Illinois State Republican Central Committee was chosen. It illustrates the "Illinois Combine" - the bipartisan collaborative formula going national these days.

The introductions for each installment, plus portions of the conclusions, are posted below beneath the links.
In three of the seven cases (2, 3, & 4) the real names of the candidates were withheld at their request.

I wrote all of the articles after speaking with the candidates and/or their campaign chair.

The GOP Declares War On Conservatives

Since the this summer a low level civil war has been simmering within the GOP between conservatives who have grown tired of the lack of desire on the part of the Establishment to resist the radical statism that has epitomized the regime of Barack Obama and the Establishment that seems more than happy to go along with Obama so long as they are kept in champagne and caviar. Many solid conservatives have insisted that the division is overblown and that a big tent is necessary to win elections.

To anyone remaining that thinks a reasonable accommodation may be made with the GOP Establishment, today’s op-ed by Michael Gerson (The GOP’s new reality) should serve as a wake up call. In fact, it is apparent from Gerson’s op-ed that the Establishment views conservatives, not the Democrats, as the existential threat to their place at the trough.

Ken Cuccinelli is a friend and I am sorry he lost.

In 2009, the Republican National Committee spent $9 million to win Virginia by a big margin. For the past 48 hours, the party bosses have been screaming to everyone about how much money they poured in this time in Virginia. We’ve had a few diarists at RedState document it and suck it up as gospel truth that the RNC did all it could this time.

The RNC spent $9 million in 2009 to win and spent $3 million this time, pulling money out of Virginia, to lose by a hair. The RNC truly screwed up in Virginia this time and no amount of spinning can distract from that screw up. It was Election Day itself when someone finally noticed the 3rd party candidate, Sarvis, had been funded by a major Obama donor. Election Day the GOP finally notices this!

Cuccinelli had all the insiders aligned against him. He was the outsider. The gays hated him, the Chamber of Commerce hated him, the kid killers hated him, the GOP establishment hated him — all the insiders hated Cuccinelli and his campaign made the strategic blunder to try to work their way inside instead of dancing with the folks who got him to the dance. The campaign manager was fired too late and the campaign fell behind by double digits. Compounding that, the Democrats massively outspent him, Governor McDonnell is involved in a scandal, and the GOP voted to raise taxes with Cuccinelli struggling to distance himself from both.

America’s First Openly Marxist Big City Mayor

If you think Barack Obama has gotten a free ride from the press, consider the case of Bill de Blasio.
The New York Post revealed at the last minute that the Marxist frontrunner for mayor of New York City visited Communist Russia in 1983. But the paper’s bizarre cover headline, “Back in the USSR,” complete with a hammer-and-sickle, seemed to make a mockery of the discovery.

International communism, which claimed more than 100 million lives, is not a laughing matter, nor just the subject of a 1968 song by the Beatles.

Described by CNN as the “unabashed liberal,” de Blasio is actually to the left of Barack Obama, in the sense that de Blasio didn’t disavow his communist background once it came to light. At least Obama tried to cover up his ties to communist Frank Marshall Davis.

De Blasio had scrubbed the Marxist connections from his campaign website, an omission that momentarily captured the attention of The New York Times. But once these connections and controversies came to light, he embraced his sordid history. He still embraces liberation theology and his work for the communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua.

Nobody believed the purpose of his “honeymoon” to Cuba was actually a honeymoon, but the media didn’t even bother to check into how he made the illegal trip and whether the FBI had developed a file on the candidate.

Exclusive: Libertarian PAC Admits 'We Probably Wouldn't Have Spent $11,000 on Sarvis' Without Democratic Donor

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News on Tuesday, Wes Benedict, co-founder and President of the Libertarian Booster PAC that spent $11,454 to circulate petitions necessary to get Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Robert Sarvis on the ballot in Virginia said "[w]e probably wouldn’t have spent the $11,000 on Sarvis if we had not received the $150,000 from him [major Democratic donor Joseph Liemandt].”

Benedict told Breitbart that Liemandt, a software entrepreneur from Texas who had a net worth of $1.5 billion in 2000, gave the Libertarian Booster PAC $150,000 in January 2013. Breitbart News searched Federal Election Commission records and discovered that Liemandt donated $4,090 to the Virginia Democratic Party just three months earlier on October 17, 2012.

In addition to his donation to the Virginia Democratic Party, Liemandt has also donated to several other state Democratic committees, most notably in Colorado, where a network of behind the scenes donations to liberal activist groups by wealthy donors has helped transform the state from Republican to Democratic control over the past decade, as documented in the book, The Blueprint.
In his home state of Texas, Liemandt has donated heavily to extremely liberal Democratic politicians including incumbent Congressman Lloyd Doggett and failed gubernatorial candidate Bill White.

Kibbe: Why are White House, Homeland Security, IRS, others scoping site FreedomWorks.org?

Forty years after Watergate, a scandal about a president’s men breaking into and bugging opposition, often under the cover of a national security imperative, Americans in opposition to the country’s current trend lines are still subject to political surveillance.

The latest example of President Barack Obama’s administration stop-and-frisk attitude is aimed towards the Internet.

The organization that is the national support and logistics hub for the Tea Party announced Oct. 30 that its website has been repeatedly cased by several federal agencies, including the executive office of the White House, the Department of Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service.

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe said, “After the flurry of scandals and abuses coming out of the intelligence collection agencies of the federal government this year, it’s curious that the DHS would frequent the FreedomWorks website.”

The website visits by government agencies were discovered during a routine internal audit of FreedomWorks.org over the last two years. The federal bureaucrats and agents spent most of their time reading blog entries and staff biographies.

McAuliffe narrowly defeats Cuccinelli in Virginia, ObamaCare troubles loom over vote

Democrat Terry McAuliffe won the Virginia governor’s race on Tuesday, in a surprisingly close victory over Republican rival Ken Cuccinelli -- who was heavily outspent and trailed in the polls for much of the race.

With nearly all precincts reporting, McAuliffe was ahead with just 48 percent of the vote, to Cuccinelli’s 45 percent. Though McAuliffe previously held a double-digit lead, exit polls showed voters opposed to the federal health care law overwhelmingly backed Cuccinelli, helping him narrow the gap on Tuesday.

...Obamacare would not raise taxes on individuals;

WHEREAS these promises have not been kept, and as a result:

...Americans clearly do not have the right to keep their health care plans under Obamacare,
...millions of Americans are losing the health care coverage and access to resources they previously had,
...Americans are losing the right to keep their doctors under Obamacare,
...millions of Americans are learning that their insurance premiums will be substantially higher under Obamacare, and
...the Obama Administration openly admits that Obamacare raises taxes on individuals;

Cruz: President Obama Should Take His Broken Promises Tour Elsewhere

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding President Obama's trip to Texas:

"President Obama's trip to Texas brings nothing with it but broken promises. He promised that Americans could keep their health care plans. We were told premiums would go down, that jobs would be created. And we now know these are all false promises.

"Texas' economy is strong and our population is young and growing because our leaders embrace limited government, restrained spending, and competition. But in spite of all Texas has done to resist the biggest entitlement program of this generation, Obamacare is reducing health care options, increasing costs and hurting jobs. It has no place in Texas and must be repealed so we can empower Americans and their families by offering real health care choices rather than a government-written menu of plans they don't want and can't afford.

"President Obama should take his broken promises tour elsewhere so Texans can continue focusing on the solutions that have allowed our state to become and remain the nation's economic and job creation powerhouse."

More Political Doublespeak from Senator John Cornyn

Texas GOP Poll: ‘Tea Party’ challenger beats Cornyn 46% to 33%

A generic “Tea Party” candidate beats Sen. John Cornyn III  (R.-Texas) in a Oct. 26 Human Events/Gravis poll of Republican voters in Texas 46 percent to 33 percent for the GOP’s number two senator.

The poll clearly shows Cornyn is trouble, especially when you see that in the poll Sen. R. Edward Cruz (R.-Texas) has a job approval rating of 73 percent among Republicans and Cornyn 46 percent, said the pollster Doug Kaplan, who founded Gravis Marketing in 2010 and whose polls were included in the Real Clear Politics basket of polls during the 2012 campaign.

TxDOT to hijack I-35: Proposes tolls on new & existing lanes

When a local San Antonio TV reporter goes on a rant over a toll lane proposal, you know the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has hit a nerve. TxDOT is proposing to add two elevated toll lanes on Interstate 35 each direction from Loop 410 in Bexar County to Schertz in Comal County, approximately 15 miles. The insanity doesn’t stop there.

Transportation Commission Chairman Ted Houghton, self-proclaimed as ‘the most arrogant commissioner of the most arrogant state agency in the state of Texas,’ announced at this week’s commission hearing that it wants to convert ALL existing free lanes on I-35 through Austin into toll lanes, and turn the failing State Highway 130 tollway into a freeway. The move would force those who can’t afford tolls into driving approximately 30-35 miles out of their way to get on SH 130 to travel north-south, not to mention Austinites and anyone who needs to travel I-35 for local travel would be double taxed and possibly priced off their own previously free highway in perpetuity.

First foreign-owned toll road in Texas downgraded to junk bond status

Hate to say it, but we told you so.

Texas’ first foreign-owned toll road financed through a controversial public private partnership just got downgraded to junk bond status by Moody’s Investors Service. The Spain-based firm, Cintra (65% ownership), and San Antonio-based Zachry (35% ownership), known as SH 130 Concession Company opened the southern leg of State Highway 130 last November.

Concerned citizens with Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) immediately launched a boycott of SH 130. Since then, the anemically low traffic levels signaled trouble from the beginning and Moody’s downgraded the concession company’s rating in April warning of the risk of default. The downgrade this week warns of default unless the company can restructure its debt or attract a substantial increase in traffic.

Moody’s predicts Cintra will be unable to meet its June 2014 debt service payment: “Thus, absent a sponsor injection of equity, a debt restructuring, or some other method of generating significantly more revenues, there is a high likelihood of a payment default in June 2014.”

Texans for Fiscal Responsibility uses exemplar votes on core budget and free enterprise issues that demonstrate legislators’ governing philosophy.

TEA Party 911 Editor's Note: This is an excellent tool to gauge how your State Representative or Senator rated on fiscal issues. An example is District 10 Representative Jim Pitts who rated an abysmal 29.7 out of a possible 100. If I was in District 10, I would be diligently seeking a replacement for Pitts.
