Alert: Marco Rubio backs McConnell for 2016 Re-election; Turns back on Tea Party

In his re-election bid, McConnell is fending off a challenge from tea party candidate Matt Bevin, a Louisville businessman, in the Kentucky Republican Senate primary.

Tea party groups were upset with the results of the government shutdown and debt-limit agreements.  McConnell played a significant leadership role to reopen the government and ensure that the U.S. did not default. The Senate Conservative Fund announced Friday it will support Bevin.

Roll Call: Only these 18 Republican Senators stood firm and voted against funding Obamacare.

We might as well have 28 empty desks in the Senate Chamber because the Republicans in the Senate voted right along with Harry Reid and the Democrats tonight.

Here’s the roll call of the only 18 Senators who stood strong and voted against the Senate’s “deal.”

No Cavalry Is Coming

Lee Cary

Fiscal conservatives wait in vain for the GOP Cavalry to rescue America from further growth in the federal debt, for there is no Cavalry coming.

An American Thinker (AT) piece, posted on July 5, 2012, entitled "If the GOP Cavalry Doesn't Come," suggested that, in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's ObamaCare decision, conservatives awaited the arrival of the GOP Cavalry after a Republican victory in November 2012.

The hoped-for Cavalry could, the article suggested, be a "troop of newly elected Republican congressional legislators who will ride into D.C. hell-bent-to-leather, determined to turn back the progressives who control the Democratic Party and the national agenda."

Then the July article asked, "What if that cavalry doesn't come? Or what if it arrives poorly armed, on lame horses, with dull leadership?"

Suit In Oklahoma Could Knock Out ObamaCare

Why didn’t anyone else think of it?

Scott Pruitt, the attorney general of Oklahoma, acting on the research of Jonathan H. Adler and Michael F. Cannon published in the Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law, has brought a new lawsuit, on behalf of the state, against ObamaCare.

Unlike the suit brought by 26 state attorneys general, this lawsuit does not make a constitutional objection to the Affordable Care Act. Instead, it uses the language of the law to challenge the elaborate system of subsidies, tax credits and individual or employer mandates and fines the act has spawned.

10 Lessons #MakeDCListen Taught Us

By Steve Deace

The ruling class is losing its cotton-picking minds, because it’s getting a long-overdue comeuppance from their employers they thought all along were really their subjects.

Whether it’s because of our nixing of their plans for another pointless Middle Eastern war, or our insistence they not foist Obamacare’s epic fail upon us while exempting themselves from it, the resulting ruling class conniption fits are coming fast and furious.

When even a few stand on principle it reveals the character of everyone else around them. And if the Obamacare filibuster begun by Ted Cruz and capably aided and abetted by Mike Lee (with others chipping in) ends up accomplishing nothing else, it has provided a searing spotlight on the character (or lack thereof) of their contemporaries and the system they’re fighting.

Here are 10 things that searing spotlight has revealed:

The Torch Should Pass From The McCains To The Cruzes

Leadership: Sen. Ted Cruz's marathon filibuster against ObamaCare should be a turning point for the Republican Party. If its younger, non-establishment leaders don't take over, it could — disastrously — spell third party.

Sept. 24 and 25, 2013, should live in infamy for GOP McCainiacs. The subtext of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's 21-hour-long filibuster could be a paraphrase of JFK's inaugural address:

"The torch has been passed to a new generation of Republicans, unwilling to permit the slow undoing of the constitutional rights to which this nation has always been committed."

Where were "old guard" Senate Republicans as Cruz gave his heart on the Senate floor for nearly a full day? They were snoozing, counting the sheep they so closely identify with, instead of standing with Cruz and his allies, like Mike Lee of Utah, Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

Cruz wasn't long off the floor before Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., a war hero, raised a white flag in one of the most disgraceful Senate speeches ever delivered.

Ted Cruz Reveals that the Republican Establishment Despise Their Own Base

The Republicans have ignored the will of their own voters for a long time.  They ignored their base and ratcheted up the national debt under President Bush.  Instead of slinking away in disgrace for losing the base, Karl Rove is as powerful as ever, fighting Cruz from the pages of the Wall Street Journal and every TV station he can use to push the status quo.  The Republican elite has fought the base's desire to stop illegal immigration.  They were happy when the Tea Party revolution handed them control of the House in 2010, then turned around and bad-mouthed us as fanatics and incompetents who failed to also win the Senate.

Interestingly, Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus is one establishment leader who does get it, perhaps because he is the guy who has to get out the vote in the next election.  Priebus published a brief piece yesterday entitled "In a battle between Ted Cruz and Harry Reid, we must stand with Senator Cruz."  The Senate leadership is not listening.

Ted Cruz knows something the establishment doesn't.  The Tea Party is a genuine populist uprising.  This government isn't an elite tyranny yet.  People do have power when they pick up the phone or e-mail their senators and congressmen.
Commentators keep talking about Cruz not working with McConnell and Cornyn, as if he is a lone wolf.  Cruz is not a lone wolf.  He is a man of the people.

Cruz Leads the Reaganite Rebellion

“This has been one of the strangest weeks I’ve ever had in Washington. As soon as we listed Ted Cruz as our featured guest this week, I got unsolicited research and questions, not from Democrats but from top Republicans, to hammer Cruz.”Host Chris Wallace on this week’s Fox News Sunday

This is a battle to save America and restore the Constitution.

A battle for liberty and freedom.

Call it “The Reaganite Rebellion” — a full blown show down between conservatives and liberals over the future of America.

First foreign-owned toll road in Texas downgraded to junk bond status

Hate to say it, but we told you so.

Texas’ first foreign-owned toll road financed through a controversial public private partnership just got downgraded to junk bond status by Moody’s Investors Service. The Spain-based firm, Cintra (65% ownership), and San Antonio-based Zachry (35% ownership), known as SH 130 Concession Company opened the southern leg of State Highway 130 last November.

Concerned citizens with Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) immediately launched a boycott of SH 130. Since then, the anemically low traffic levels signaled trouble from the beginning and Moody’s downgraded the concession company’s rating in April warning of the risk of default. The downgrade this week warns of default unless the company can restructure its debt or attract a substantial increase in traffic.

Moody’s predicts Cintra will be unable to meet its June 2014 debt service payment: “Thus, absent a sponsor injection of equity, a debt restructuring, or some other method of generating significantly more revenues, there is a high likelihood of a payment default in June 2014.”

Poll: Texans Reluctant to Buy GM Trucks Because of Bailout

More than half say bailout would affect their decision on buying a truck

More than half of Texans said that the nearly $50 billion taxpayer bailout of General Motors may deter them from buying from the company, according to a survey released Tuesday.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), a nonprofit ethics watchdog, surveyed more than 500 Texas residents and found that 40 percent said the bailout would “absolutely” affect their decision about buying one of GM’s new pick-up trucks. More than 22 percent said it would “likely” or “very likely” affect their decision, while just 24 percent answered “not too likely.”

About 150 of those surveyed said that they were in the market for a new truck.

“Truck buyers are older, less urban and more politically conservative than other consumers,” according to the NLPC. “Ominously for GM, the percentages of those who said their buying decision would be influenced by whether the company received financial assistance from the government were higher than those not in the market.”

Hold Your Ground and Shut John Cornyn Up

After three years of getting ready, yesterday the nation signed on to get Obamacare only to have websites across America crash. The ones that were not crashing were scam sites designed for identity theft. Amid all of that, if you tried to get Obamacare through an internet search engine, you probably got scammed. “[S]ome of these scam sites actually have better search-engine rankings than official sites,” reports UPI.

This is the backdrop to the fight to defund Obamacare. Some pundits claim if it were not for the shutdown the press would have covered the disastrous launch. A press that has refused to cover all the painful stories of people harmed by Obamacare would never do this. Consider MSNBC, which like the North Korean propaganda ministry, claims the website crashes were because Obamacare is too popular.

Riiiiggghhhhhtttt. That gets us to Congress and the embarrassing performance of John Cornyn and a bunch of House staffers.

Empower Texans Releases Their Fiscal Responsibility Index Rating Texas State Legislators

Empower Texans Must See Fiscal Responsibility Index RatingThe Fiscal Responsibility Index is a measurement of how lawmakers perform on size and role of government issues. Texans for Fiscal Responsibility uses exemplar votes on core budget and free enterprise issues that demonstrate legislators’ governing philosophy.

TEA Party 911 Editor's Note: This is an excellent tool to gauge how your State Representative or Senator rated on fiscal issues. An example is District 10 Representative Jim Pitts who rated an abysmal 29.7 out of a possible 100. If I was in District 10, I would be diligently seeking a replacement for Pitts.
