Nancy Mace to announce primary challenge against Lindsey Graham

Posted August 2, 2013

The first woman to graduate from the Citadel is planning to challenge South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham in the Republican primary next year.

Charleston businesswoman Nancy Mace will head to Goose Creek Saturday to announce her Senate campaign, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

“This isn’t about one senator,” Mace told TheDCNF. “The only way to change Washington is to change who we send to Washington.”

Who Are the Biggest Chickens in Washington?

Matt Bevin and the Coming Revolution

Posted August 2, 2013

The amazing thing is that, unlike in past generations, we need not sacrifice our lives to restore our Republic.  We just need to band together and offer some time and money to completely overturn the political class that has run our country into the ground.  We have the power to throw out these fifth columnists, take back the Republican Party, and fundamentally restore our Republican form of government.  Yet, year after year, we reelect 95% of these empty suits – including the failed leaders of the Republican Party.

This is about to change, but only with your help.

Next year, we will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to foment a bloodless revolution to completely change the leadership in Washington.  Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of working with a few dedicated people to help a number of gifted patriots storm the castle of the political class and change the dynamic in Washington.  The first man to step forward is, perhaps, the most impressive of all.  Matt Bevin, a gifted entrepreneur, loving father of nine, and prolific philanthropist, has stepped up to be the modern-day Paul Revere and has the intrepid courage to fight the political class in a way that few are willing to do.

IRS Chief: I Want to Keep My Health Care Plan, Not Switch to Obamacare

Posted August 2, 2013

IRS chief Daniel Werfel says he wants to keep his health care plan, not switch to Obamacare:

"Mr. Werfel, last week your employees who are a member of the National Treasury Employee's Union sent a form letter for union members to send in to ask they be exempt from the exchanges," a congressman asked. "Why are your employees trying to exempt themselves from the very law that you're tasked to enforce?"

Obama Promises to Help Congressional Staffers Avoid Obamacare

Posted August 2, 2013

Washington has been abuzz for months over the fear and loathing that Congressional staffers have for Obamacare. Many staffers and employees on Capitol Hill have been saying they'll have to quit Washington if they are forced into Obamacare. Now the President is promising to fix it all for them.

At the very beginning of his closed-door meeting with Senate Democrats, the President addressed staffers' worries that Obamacare will force them to quit working in Washington, promising "I'm on it."

Currently congressional staffers have 75 percent of their healthcare insurance paid by taxpayers, but if their Cadillac Congressional healthcare plan is ended and staffers are pushed into Obamacare, many Congressional employees fear that their insurance costs will increase by thousands of dollars a year. This cost, many say, will force them to quit working in Washington.

Sorry: Businesses cannot avoid Obamacare by switching to part-time staff

Posted August 2, 2013

The administration has popped the bubble of hope some small business had that switching to part-time staff would let them escape the high costs of Obamacare.

The Small Business Administration on Thursday created a website to explain to businesses that the government will simply tally up the number of part-time employees firms have to determine if enough hours have been worked to essentially create a "full-time equivalent."

Samantha Power confirmed as Obama’s UN ambassador

Posted August 2, 2013

The Senate confirmed President Obama’s nominee to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

On an 87-10 vote Wednesday, the Senate approved the nomination of Samantha Power. Nearly 30 GOP senators voted with Democrats to approve her nomination.

“Having a strong voice in the United Nations is imperative,” Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) said ahead of the vote. “Power possesses the type of character, type of strong background, is a person of intellect and has the right kind of way to communicate to represent us at the United Nations.”

GOP Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.), David Vitter (La.), Mike Lee (Utah), Ted Cruz (Texas), Tim Scott (S.C.), Mike Enzi (Wyo.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Richard Shelby (Ala.) and John Barrasso (Wyo.) voted against Power's nomination.

McCain strolls into Dem caucus meeting

Posted August 2, 2013

Sen. John McCain — a Democrat?

There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol.

The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance.

As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.

Saying he “had to give a speech,” McCain was eyed walking away sporting a big grin.

Why Does John McCain Keep Running As A Republican?

Posted August 2, 2013

Liberal columnist Dana Milbank called him on these pages " the most important legislator in a generation."

McCain has accepted the role with great relish. (His campaign plane was once named Maverick One.) Apparently he needs the media's love to feed his ego. And if that means siding with Democrats and opposing the convictions of his own party, well, that's just the way it is.

Saying it would "be a tough choice" for president to pick between Rep. Rand Paul and Hillary Clinton is just the latest example of how McCain has betrayed his party and those who have voted for him because they thought he would represent their desire to limit government and increase liberty.

He has also in recent days declared, according to columnist Al Hunt, that "his role model now is the late Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy, who was a friend."

ACA (Obamacare) Subsidy Cliff May Incentivize Some To Earn Less

Posted August 2, 2013

The introduction of ACA subsidies to help people buy insurance on the individual market creates a number of economic incentives when it comes to income. In particular is the phase-out of all subsidies for households once their income surpasses 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Getting a raise or putting in more hours beyond the FPL threshold may actually result in less take-home income for the household.

Since the subsidies are only available to those purchasing insurance through the state exchange, the issues with the cliff will apply only to that same group. Within this group, it will take effect for households with incomes near 400% of FPL.

The Math for the 2014 Senate Races is Wrong

Posted August 1, 2013

Pundits keep trying to determine the number of Senate seats that Republicans must win to take over the majority in the Senate after the 2014 elections.  No matter how favorable the chances of Republican pickups might be in November 2014, and no matter how many seats the Republicans actually win, the math that is being bandied about is wrong.

To actually have a working majority in the Senate, rather than just a nominal majority, Republicans need to have a post-election total of 54 seats or more, not merely 51.

Why do Republicans need three extra seats?  There are three reasons why, actually.  John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire to put names to the reasons.

McCain: Hillary a 'Rock Star,' Fox News 'Schizophrenic'

August 1, 2013

In a lengthy interview with the left-wing New Republic, John McCain, the Republican Party's 2008 nominee blurted out his affection for Hillary Clinton more than once.

At one point the Arizona Senator said that choosing between Rand Paul or Clinton for president in 2016 would be a "tough choice." He then went on to call the former Secretary of State a "rock star" and criticize Fox News as "schizophrenic" over the issue of immigration reform.

McCain's sudden affection for Clinton is in sharp contrast to the outrage he expressed over the four dead Americans in Libya who were left unprotected by Clinton's State Department.

Lawmakers, Aides Not Happy Obamacare Forces Them to Buy Unsubsidized Plans

Posted August 1, 2013

Members of Congress and their aides will be forced to pay up to $11,000 more a year to buy health insurance on the Obamacare exchanges once the state exchanges become implemented in less than nine weeks.

Obamacare, as it is written, does not give the federal government a way of subsidizing the insurance plans of federal workers in Congress like it currently does. Republicans wanted legislators and their aides to play by the same rules as their constituents, so the GOP inserted a provision requiring congressional workers to purchase insurance from the exchanges.

Big Brother In Oakland? There Might Be An App Coming For That (Analysis)

Posted August 1, 2013

In the next year, authorized personnel in Oakland will be able access multiple video feeds from a large swath of the city, along with real-time information such as weather and detailed crime information all on in one location, even on their laptop and mobile device.

While officials say the $2 million set to be approved later this month by the Oakland City Council for the second phase of a virtual data warehouse called a Domain Awareness Center (DAC) will be an “immense time-saving tool” for police and fire, the wide-ranging ability of the system to cobble together disparate video streams from across city streets, including the O.Co Coliseum may make privacy advocates cringe. The system will also be able to pull in data obtained by license plate readers.

Video Shows Illegal Arrest & Perjury by Texas Judge Layne Walker and Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies

Posted August 2, 2013

Shocking corruption uncovered in Southeast Texas. The FBI is investigating after a secret video proves that Democrat State District Judge Layne Walker, his court law enforcement officers, and other officials in Beaumont, Jefferson County , TX committed a vast number of crimes including FALSE ARREST, PERJURY, THEFT, DESTRUCTION OF EVIDENCE. (see video below at end of article)

East Texas is Corrupt but this is especially shocking because this is our law enforcement and justice system conspiring together to break the law and put a man in jail! We are supposed to be able to trust them. Texas State Authorities need to step in as soon as possible and charge these public officials and remove the Judge from the bench. Furthermore, the false charges against Stephen Hartman must be dropped immediately. Can you imagine if there was no secret video? God help anyone else who has been wronged by this Judge who thinks he is above the law.

Finger Lickin’ Frauds - Senator John Cornyn

Posted August 2, 2013

John Cornyn went on radio yesterday with Chad Hasty (on twitter: @chadhastyradio) on Lubbock’s NewsTalk 790 AM KFYO. When asked why he took his name off Mike Lee’s letter about defunding Obamacare, John Cornyn said he did so because of a Congressional Research Service report on the implication of Mike Lee’s strategy.

There’s just one problem. John Cornyn took his name off the letter before the Congressional Research Service released its report. In fact, before Mike Lee’s office officially released the names on the letter, multiple sources in the Senate confirmed that Senator Cornyn removed his name after conversations with Senator Mitch McConnell’s office.

Outrage Builds Over Anti-Religious Freedom Ordinance, Rally Set For Saturday

Posted August 2, 2013

Rally to Celebrate Life, Marriage, Family & Our Precious Freedoms in San Antonio, TexasOutrage continues to build in Texas and across the nation about a proposed ordinance by the San Antonio City Council that would create an unprecedented attack on religious liberty, particularly for Christians. The ordinance, which could be taken up as early as next week, would ban anyone that has ever opposed (“by word or deed…”) homosexuality from being involved in city government and/or performing a city contract. The proposed ordinance is filled with serious legal and moral problems as it fundamentally threatens our freedom of religion and freedom of speech protected in the First Amendment.

With the consequences of the ordinance set to directly impact people of faith, the business community and many others, people around San Antonio are joining together in an effort to stop the proposed ordinance. A rally has been set for this Saturday:

What: Rally to Celebrate Life, Marriage, Family & Our Precious Freedoms

When: Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. People are encouraged to wear blue.

Where: Milam Park, Downtown San Antonio

The Rally is sponsored by several local pro-family organizations in San Antonio, including our friends at the San Antonio Family Association. If you are in the San Antonio area we encourage you to come out for this family-friendly rally and to continue to contact the San Antonio City Council and encourage them to support religious freedom.

ABBOTT: Obama's scheme to take over Texas

Posted August 2, 2013

By Greg Abbott
The Washington Times

The Obama administration’s interference in Texas’ redistricting and voter-ID litigation does not protect voting rights. It protects the Democratic Party. Recall that just a few months ago, high-ranking Obama operatives launched a campaign to “turn Texas blue.” The administration’s foray into Texas voting rights litigation is just another page in that political playbook.

In redistricting, the Obama administration has aligned itself with Democratic state representatives and Democratic members of Congress who already are suing Texas. It is no surprise then that the legal position of President Obama’s attorneys seeks to improve Democratic candidates’ prospects. Of course, Mr. Obama’s attorneys conceal this partisan agenda with lofty rhetoric about minority voting rights. But it is no coincidence that every change to district lines supported by the administration benefits Democrats. Behind the empty allegations of racial discrimination lies one goal — helping Democrats in 2014.

Chris Matthews: Ted Cruz is a terrorist

Posted August 1, 2013

On Wednesday’s “Hardball” on MSNBC, host Chris Matthews continued his attack on Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, but this time took it a step further.

Matthews had been comparing Cruz to former Wisconsin Republican Sen. Joseph McCarthy over the past few weeks based on his looks and demeanor. But Matthews introduced a new description into his attack on Cruz for his suggested tactic of threatening a government shutdown to stop Obamacare — “terrorist.”

Texas lawmakers can't agree on road funding, third special session called

Posted August 1, 2013 ~ Terri Hall

The second called special session of the Texas legislature began with all eyes on Texas' fetal pain bill after a filibuster scuttled it -- transportation appearing an afterthought, but this one ended in yet another flop. Texas Governor Rick Perry immediately called a third special session 30 minutes later to address transportation funding. State lawmakers had initially agreed on a road funding bill at the end of the first special session and took up the same bill in the second.

However, changes in the bill and new ideas put on the table ended up causing the whole thing to fizzle. The 'compromise' bill decided by a conference committee couldn't garner the needed 100 votes in the Texas House. According to a tweet from a Houston Chronicle reporter, Speaker Joe Straus is said to want a road funding crisis and would rather see no bill pass in order to push tax hikes in the next regular session in 2015. When lawmakers were expected to pass the final version in the Senate Monday, not enough senators even showed up to get the required votes for passage there either.

Cruz ‘perplexed’ by GOP attacks on him, won’t back down in ‘Defund Obamacare’ fight

Posted August 1, 2013

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is “perplexed” by GOP attacks on his effort to defund Obamacare and has no intention of backing down, despite complaints from other Senate Republicans that his crusade is not realistic and could potentially damage the party’s chances in the 2014 midterm elections.

“There may be people who lob attacks at him, but he’s not going to return those attacks,” Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told The Daily Caller, taking a firm stand in a battle that could determine the GOP’s strategic playbook heading into the 2014 midterms.

Congressional Black Caucus recommends Sheila Jackson Lee for Homeland Security Secretary

Posted July 31, 2013

Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee as a replacement for outgoing-DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.”

A letter  dated July 25 and signed by CBC Chairwoman Rep. Marcia Fudge, an Ohio Democrat, urges President Barack Obama to consider Jackson Lee for the position formerly held by Janet Napolitano, the first woman to hold the position. Napolitano resigned earlier this month to become president of the University of California.

Exclusive–Cruz: Obamacare Subsidy 'Chicago-Style' Vote Buying

Posted July 30, 2013

Cruz continued:
It’s essentially encouraging liar loans, encouraging fraud for people who come forward and say, "I qualify for a subsidy," and the Obama administration saying, "we’re not going to check on anything, we’re just going to take your word for it and grant you the subsidy." That is all Chicago-style politics designed to buy as many votes as possible. It is why the fight is now or never.

Yes, the RNC Really DID Support Federal Oversight of State Elections

Posted July 30, 2013

On a July day in 2006, the entire Republican caucus was invited to hear a private debate in a meeting room in the Capitol. Scores of GOP members attended, including House Speaker Dennis Hastert. At issue was whether the federal government should continue to have control over every election-law change in sixteen states, including Texas, California, Florida, and South Carolina. Federal power over the states was set to expire. On one side of the debate was lawyer Mike Carvin, who argued that federal oversight should end.

Carvin's opponent arguing for continued federal power to review election changes like voter ID wasn't a Democrat, or even a zealot from the NAACP.

Instead, opposing Carvin's constitutionalist viewpoint and advocating for federal oversight of state elections was the former chief counsel to the Republican National Committee (RNC). Also on that side was a group of RNC consultants and lawyers who remained active in RNC policy advancing this viewpoint in the following years.

The Sad Joke From John Cornyn’s Office

Posted July 29, 2013

John Cornyn says he yanked his name off Mike Lee’s Obamacare defunding letter because Mike Lee’s letter only pertains to partially defunding Obamacare and John Cornyn wants to fully defund it.

One might then assume John Cornyn will vote against a continuing resolution unless Obamacare is fully defunded. But no, that’s not what he is doing.

John Cornyn has turned into a sad joke and Mike Lee’s letter is important because it is highlighting these punchlines of past their prime politicians who preach, but won’t practice what they preach.

John Cornyn has no intention of fighting. Neither does Mitch McConnell. Neither does Lamar Alexander. Neither does Richard Burr. Neither do most of the Republicans. They will send you fundraising appeals telling you to stand with the GOP against Obamacare, please send them money.

But when confronted with the challenge of opposing continuing funding of the government if that funding goes to Obamacare, their testicular fortitude runs down their leg and out the door. They rally their usual op-ed voices to call conservative dumb. They preemptively surrender. They behave worse than the French.

Sen. Ted Cruz Promotes Dontfundit.com, Says Grassroots Conservatives Can Stop ObamaCare

Posted July 29, 2013

Sen. Ted Cruz didn't sugarcoat the odds against preventing ObamaCare from going into effect during a rip-roaring speech at the Western Conservative Summit Saturday in Denver.

Then again, a senatorial hopeful with a 2 percent poll rating isn't supposed to win the general election by 16 points.

The conservative darling introduced the new web site dontfundit.com at the fourth annual Summit, simulcast live Saturday to delegates attending the Arizona Western Conservative Summit in Scottsdale. The site includes a petition against ObamaCare as well as contact information for Republican Senators to convince them to support the funding ban.

Justice for James: Black Cop Shoots Unarmed White Veteran in Orange, TX over Racial Slur

Posted July 29, 2013

Justice for Trayvon Martin? How about Justice for James Whitehead? James Whitehead was a white veteran who had recently come back from war. Orange, TX Police Officer Robert Arnold (who has a history of violence) shot and killed unarmed James Whitehead. Arnold is black. Arnold was not in his uniform and did not have a badge. Whitehead got into a verbal altercation about a bad part for his vehicle. James Whitehead did not ever get violent or attack Arnold or anyone else. Whitehead was wrong to get into a verbal altercation but at most he would have gotten a ticket and a fine. Whitehead decided to stop arguing and just leave and that is when Arnold shot the unarmed man dead right on the spot. Arnold was fired for the incident and for his other violent past incidents. Even Arnold's fellow police officers wanted Arnold to be charged with murder. Arnold was never charged and got away with murder. Arnold has enlisted race baiter Lawyer Cade Bernsen (the white Al Sharpton) to sue the city claiming he was fired because he was black and not because he shot an unarmed white man.

Why is there no outrage or protests from Al Sharpton for the countless times a black person kills and unarmed White, Hispanic or Black person?

(UPDATED: RNC Responds to PJ Media) EXCLUSIVE: RNC Operatives Join Holder's Campaign Against Texas, Several Other States

Special Saturday Update Posted July 27, 2013

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Thursday that the Justice Department will seek to recapture Texas and return it to federal oversight for approval of all election law changes such as photo voter identification. Holder’s move comes after the Supreme Court in June freed Texas and other states from the requirement that all state election laws be approved in Washington, D.C. Holder’s move prompted outrage from Texas Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn and Governor Rick Perry.

The three should also be angry with the Republican National Committee. PJ Tatler has learned that staff at the RNC have been spending RNC donations plotting to do exactly what Eric Holder is seeking to do – return Texas and other states to federal oversight.

According to RNC sources frustrated with the race-based effort, paid RNC consultant Tom Hofeller (thofeller@rnchq.org) is spending RNC donations to develop race-based criteria to grab Texas and other states and place them back into federal receivership. The sources tell Tatler that nearly all of the members of the actual committee have been kept in the dark about this effort, and no mention is ever made in RNC fundraising efforts — for good reason, because GOP donors would be furious.
