Matt Bevin Endorsed by Madison Project PAC Over Mitch McConnell

Posted July 30, 2013

Madison Project Chairman Jim Ryun“The only way to change the lackluster leadership in the Republican Party is to replace the career politicians who lead the party. Matt Bevin is brave enough to storm the castle of the GOP Establishment and challenge the sitting minority leader, and we are proud to stand with him and with millions of conservatives who feel disenfranchised by unprincipled GOP leaders like Mitch McConnell.”

Washington, DC – The Madison Project PAC announced today that it is endorsing Louisville businessman Matt Bevin for Senate against Senator Mitch McConnell in next year’s Republican primary for Senate.

“Earlier this year, Senator Rand Paul illustrated the problem with the GOP establishment by noting that they have grown stale and moss-covered,” said Daniel Horowitz of the Madison Project. “After 28 years in the Senate and over 10 years in leadership, Senator Mitch McConnell has become the embodiment of stale moss-covered leadership.  It’s not just his votes for Democrat proposals, such as open borders, bailouts, fiscal cliff tax hikes, debt limit increases, green energy stimulus, and funding for Obamacare, it is the fact that McConnell has refused to use his leadership role to fight for conservatives.  On so many major legislative battles important to conservatives, McConnell has refused to fight and has remained ambiguous about his own position until he felt a clear signal from his political weather vane.  His behavior during the amnesty fight is a consummate example of McConnell following from behind instead of leading from the front.

We Will Have a Third Party

Posted July 30, 2013 ~ Erick Erickson

For several years, Republican establishment types and their allies in the press have mocked conservatives for wanting an all or nothing strategy. They’ve said we have to be willing to compromise. So Mike Lee proposes a plan to fund the government except for the discretionary funding for Obamacare. The reaction of GOP leaders? They only want to support a plan that fully repeals Obamacare.

Conservatives have done what the GOP establishment wants. And now they attack us for compromising instead of going all or nothing?
We inch ever closer to a third party as Republican Leaders commit suicide by lie. The leadership willing to fight the base to pass a terrible immigration reform bill won’t lift a finger to fight against Obamacare.

The best chance we, as conservative activists have, is to deliver the third party from within by picking off Republican establishment leaders in primaries. From Matt Bevin to Milton Wolf to Larry Rhoden to Rob Maness to so many others, it is time to disrupt the GOP in a last ditch effort to save it from itself.

Consider this an open thread.

Saudi Prince: Fracking Is Threat To Kingdom

Posted July 30, 2013

As the fracking revolution eases demand for the kingdom's oil and gas, a billionaire prince warns his nation to find new income.

A Saudi prince has warned that his oil-reliant nation is under threat because of fracking technology being developed elsewhere around the world.

Billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said the Gulf Arab kingdom needed to reduce its reliance on crude oil and diversify its revenues.

His warning comes as rising shale energy supplies in the United States cut global demand for Saudi oil.

In an open letter to his country's oil minister Ali al Naimi and other government heads, published on Sunday via his Twitter account, Prince Alwaleed said demand for oil from Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) member states was "in continuous decline".

Electric Vehicle Manufacturer hires DOE official after receiving more than $100M in federal funds

A former top Energy Department official has taken a position on the board of a company that received millions in taxpayer money from the department through a stimulus program that has come under criticism from Congress and independent watchdogs.

San Francisco-based ECOtality announced in a July 9 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it has appointed Brandon Hurlbut, former chief of staff for recently departed Energy Secretary Steven Chu, to its board.

Hurlbut led DOE’s transition from Chu to current Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. He also served as the White House’s deputy director of cabinet affairs and worked for President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign.

Lindsey Graham Likely to Face Several Primary Challengers

Posted July 29, 2013

Both State Senator Lee Bright and Nancy Mace, the first female graduate of the Citadel, are preparing to enter the race soon, according to The Daily Beast.

State Senator Bright believes his record is more likely to appeal to the Tea Party. "My voting record in the state Senate is very similar to what Jim DeMint did in the U.S. Senate. It is more of a match with conservative values in South Carolina," he said. Bright blasted Graham, who he said is not "in touch with the people of South Carolina. He is more enamored of the national media than he is doing what South Carolinians would like to see him do."

Mitch McConnell Thinks Matt Bevin is a More Serious Contender Than He Originally Let On

Posted July 29, 2013

The Mitch McConnell team originally seemed rather dismissive of Matt Bevin as a primary opponent. Content, publicly, to focus on the Democrat, behind the scenes McConnell and the Kentucky GOP are aggressively pushing local Republicans to unite quickly. They want to shut down Bevin early.

Taylor Bumgardner, the Regional Field Director for the Republican Party of Kentucky, sent out a “Team Mitch” endorsement form on Saturday as an attachment to this email:

EXCLUSIVE--GOP Voters: Oust Congress Members Who Vote to Fund ObamaCare

9/11 Museum Director Tried to Cut Firefighter Photo: Too 'Rah-Rah American'

Posted July 29, 2013

According to Elizabeth Greenspan, author of the up coming book Battle for Ground Zero (St. Martin’s Press), Michael Shulan, creative director of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, thought about cutting the famed photo from Ground Zero of three firefighters raising the American flag amidst the rubble of the World Trade Center…because he thought it was too “rah-rah America.” Shulan said, “I really believe that the way America will look best, the way we can really do best, is to not be Americans so vigilantly and so vehemently.”

McCain joins Coburn dissent on Cruz, Lee, Rubio push to defund Obamacare

Posted July 29, 2013

“I agree with my friend Dr. Coburn,” Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., tweeted Saturday, after the Republican senator from Oklahoma harshly criticized the push to defund Obamacare led by freshman Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Marco Rubio, R-Fla.

McCain linked to the interview Friday by the Washington Examiner's Byron York in which Coburn disparaged the strategy.

“The worst thing is being dishonest with your base about what you can accomplish, ginning everybody up and then creating disappointment,” Coburn said. “It’s a terribly dangerous and not successful strategy.”

Washington Post conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer agreed with Coburn criticism during an appearance Friday evening on Fox News in which he said the defunding strategy was “really dumb.”

Treasury Secretary Lew: Read Our Lips, No New Spending Cuts

Posted July 29, 2013

On ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew threatened that President Obama would veto any bill cutting domestic spending, and said Obama would not hold negotiations of any sort on the debt ceiling. “Congress can’t let us default,” Lew said. “Congress has to do its work… I certainly hope that Congress isn't looking to create confrontations and false crises because we did see, in 2011, how bad that is for the American economy. The mere fact of negotiating over the debt limit, after 2011, would introduce this notion that somehow there's a question about whether or not we're going to pay our bills, whether or not we're going to protect the full faith and credit of the United States.”

Lew continued by saying that Congress might actually move in the other direction by replacing sequestration’s automatic spending cuts. He specifically cited Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and John McCain (R-AZ) as possible negotiators with the White House – he said they would be meeting with White House staff to discuss other spending options. On NBC’s Meet the Press, Lew said, “What the president said - and has written to Congress is - that they cannot fix the problems created by the across-the-board cuts-- known as sequestration by cutting domestic priorities in order to fund defense. That's unacceptable…He won’t sign that.”

Costco backs Obama, Obama touts Costco

Posted July 29, 2013

If you’re a millionaire corporate bigwig using your wealth to influence elections, and using your company’s clout to influence legislation, President Obama might give you a tongue-lashing. Unless you’re a fundraiser and donor for the Obama Victory Fund, and your company’s lobbying agenda coincides with the White House’s — then Obama will give you a shout-out in a major economic address.

In his nationally televised speech Wednesday, Obama sang the praises of retail giant Costco, whose founder Jim Sinegal gave Obama the maximum contribution in two elections and hosted fundraisers for his reelection. Costco has also lobbied for many of Obama’s legislative priorities, including higher minimum wage, Obamacare, and price controls on financial processing fees.

@SenatorBurr Thinks You’re Dumb. Call Him at (202) 224-3154 & Tell Him Defunding Obamacare is Smart

Posted July 26, 2013

Call Senator Burr to Defund ObamacareDo you think the GOP should hold the line on Obamacare? Do you think the GOP should tell the Democrats no continuing resolution will contain funding for Obamacare? If you do, Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina thinks you are dumb.

Senator Mike Lee’s strategy on Obamacare is very simple. Don’t let the implementation begin. He has gotten a number of senators to sign a letter pleading they will oppose any continuing resolution that funds Obamacare. Yesterday, Senator Burr declared this “the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard of.”

Dumber than Obamacare itself? Really? He might need to know the base is quite serious on this issue. His phone number is (202) 224-3154.

The Consultants Who Brought Us President Romney & The GOP Senate Majority Oppose Obamacare Defunding

Posted July 26, 2013

Polling suggests Republicans drawing a line in the sand over Obamacare funding in the continuing resolution would be unpopular with the American public. Instead of trying to find a way to convince the American public this is the right thing to do, the Republican consultant class wants to run rapidly away from the idea.

They have convinced Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker John Boehner that the GOP must not allow the Democrats to shut down the government by the GOP refusing to fund Obamacare.

A Different Amendment Restricting NSA Spying Was Passed Overwhelmingly by the House – But ‘No One Is Talking About It’

Posted July 26, 2013

While the most talked-about news out of the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday was the defeat of the so-called Amash amendment that would have defunded the NSA’s massive data collection program, another amendment related to NSA spying was quietly passed overwhelmingly by lawmakers.

The Pompeo amendment (championed by Rep. Mike Pompeo of Kansas) passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 409-12. However, “no one is talking about it,” Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) told TheBlaze on Thursday.

The amendment that passed is reportedly intended to “ensure none of the funds may be used by the NSA to target a U.S. person or acquire and store the content of a U.S. person’s communications, including phone calls and e-mails.”

Secret demands mark escalation in Internet surveillance by the federal government through gaining access to user passwords, which are typically stored in encrypted form.

The U.S. government has demanded that major Internet companies divulge users' stored passwords, according to two industry sources familiar with these orders, which represent an escalation in surveillance techniques that has not previously been disclosed.

IRS employee union: We don’t want Obamacare

Posted July 26, 2013

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.

National Taxpayer Employee Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.

The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

The NTEU represents 150,000 federal employees overall, including most of the nearly 100,000 IRS workers.

Exclusive–Cruz: Obamacare Subsidy 'Chicago-Style' Vote Buying

Posted July 30, 2013

Cruz continued:
It’s essentially encouraging liar loans, encouraging fraud for people who come forward and say, "I qualify for a subsidy," and the Obama administration saying, "we’re not going to check on anything, we’re just going to take your word for it and grant you the subsidy." That is all Chicago-style politics designed to buy as many votes as possible. It is why the fight is now or never.

Yes, the RNC Really DID Support Federal Oversight of State Elections

Posted July 30, 2013

On a July day in 2006, the entire Republican caucus was invited to hear a private debate in a meeting room in the Capitol. Scores of GOP members attended, including House Speaker Dennis Hastert. At issue was whether the federal government should continue to have control over every election-law change in sixteen states, including Texas, California, Florida, and South Carolina. Federal power over the states was set to expire. On one side of the debate was lawyer Mike Carvin, who argued that federal oversight should end.

Carvin's opponent arguing for continued federal power to review election changes like voter ID wasn't a Democrat, or even a zealot from the NAACP.

Instead, opposing Carvin's constitutionalist viewpoint and advocating for federal oversight of state elections was the former chief counsel to the Republican National Committee (RNC). Also on that side was a group of RNC consultants and lawyers who remained active in RNC policy advancing this viewpoint in the following years.

The Sad Joke From John Cornyn’s Office

Posted July 29, 2013

John Cornyn says he yanked his name off Mike Lee’s Obamacare defunding letter because Mike Lee’s letter only pertains to partially defunding Obamacare and John Cornyn wants to fully defund it.

One might then assume John Cornyn will vote against a continuing resolution unless Obamacare is fully defunded. But no, that’s not what he is doing.

John Cornyn has turned into a sad joke and Mike Lee’s letter is important because it is highlighting these punchlines of past their prime politicians who preach, but won’t practice what they preach.

John Cornyn has no intention of fighting. Neither does Mitch McConnell. Neither does Lamar Alexander. Neither does Richard Burr. Neither do most of the Republicans. They will send you fundraising appeals telling you to stand with the GOP against Obamacare, please send them money.

But when confronted with the challenge of opposing continuing funding of the government if that funding goes to Obamacare, their testicular fortitude runs down their leg and out the door. They rally their usual op-ed voices to call conservative dumb. They preemptively surrender. They behave worse than the French.

Sen. Ted Cruz Promotes Dontfundit.com, Says Grassroots Conservatives Can Stop ObamaCare

Posted July 29, 2013

Sen. Ted Cruz didn't sugarcoat the odds against preventing ObamaCare from going into effect during a rip-roaring speech at the Western Conservative Summit Saturday in Denver.

Then again, a senatorial hopeful with a 2 percent poll rating isn't supposed to win the general election by 16 points.

The conservative darling introduced the new web site dontfundit.com at the fourth annual Summit, simulcast live Saturday to delegates attending the Arizona Western Conservative Summit in Scottsdale. The site includes a petition against ObamaCare as well as contact information for Republican Senators to convince them to support the funding ban.

Justice for James: Black Cop Shoots Unarmed White Veteran in Orange, TX over Racial Slur

Posted July 29, 2013

Justice for Trayvon Martin? How about Justice for James Whitehead? James Whitehead was a white veteran who had recently come back from war. Orange, TX Police Officer Robert Arnold (who has a history of violence) shot and killed unarmed James Whitehead. Arnold is black. Arnold was not in his uniform and did not have a badge. Whitehead got into a verbal altercation about a bad part for his vehicle. James Whitehead did not ever get violent or attack Arnold or anyone else. Whitehead was wrong to get into a verbal altercation but at most he would have gotten a ticket and a fine. Whitehead decided to stop arguing and just leave and that is when Arnold shot the unarmed man dead right on the spot. Arnold was fired for the incident and for his other violent past incidents. Even Arnold's fellow police officers wanted Arnold to be charged with murder. Arnold was never charged and got away with murder. Arnold has enlisted race baiter Lawyer Cade Bernsen (the white Al Sharpton) to sue the city claiming he was fired because he was black and not because he shot an unarmed white man.

Why is there no outrage or protests from Al Sharpton for the countless times a black person kills and unarmed White, Hispanic or Black person?

(UPDATED: RNC Responds to PJ Media) EXCLUSIVE: RNC Operatives Join Holder's Campaign Against Texas, Several Other States

Special Saturday Update Posted July 27, 2013

Attorney General Eric Holder announced Thursday that the Justice Department will seek to recapture Texas and return it to federal oversight for approval of all election law changes such as photo voter identification. Holder’s move comes after the Supreme Court in June freed Texas and other states from the requirement that all state election laws be approved in Washington, D.C. Holder’s move prompted outrage from Texas Senators Ted Cruz, John Cornyn and Governor Rick Perry.

The three should also be angry with the Republican National Committee. PJ Tatler has learned that staff at the RNC have been spending RNC donations plotting to do exactly what Eric Holder is seeking to do – return Texas and other states to federal oversight.

According to RNC sources frustrated with the race-based effort, paid RNC consultant Tom Hofeller (thofeller@rnchq.org) is spending RNC donations to develop race-based criteria to grab Texas and other states and place them back into federal receivership. The sources tell Tatler that nearly all of the members of the actual committee have been kept in the dark about this effort, and no mention is ever made in RNC fundraising efforts — for good reason, because GOP donors would be furious.

Holder Declares War on Texas, Ignores Supreme Court Ruling

Posted July 26, 2013

Attorney General Eric Holder has launched a war against Texas, and in doing so is defying the Supreme Court of the United States. The imminent judicial beat-down of Holder highlights that this case is not about the rule of law and instead abuses the federal courts for political purposes to rile up the far left and demonize Republicans.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) was enacted pursuant to the Constitution’s Fifteenth Amendment, making it illegal to deny someone’s voting rights due to race. Under VRA Section 2, if any government official violates your voting rights anywhere in the country, you can sue in federal court.

Posted July 26, 2013

HOUSTON, TX. July 25, 2013 - True the Vote (TTV), the nation's leading voters' rights organization, responded today to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's plans to launch a wholesale attack against the State of Texas by filing federal lawsuits against Texas' voter ID law and election procedures.

"We will not sit idly by and allow the most politically charged Department of Justice in US history to set aside the US constitution and attempt to bully the people of Texas", True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said. "We will meet Attorney General Holder in court and we will do whatever we need to do to advance the cause of voters' rights for all Americans."

"General Holder's announcement today demonstrates just how radical the DOJ has become. The same department that criminalizes journalism and fails to prosecute IRS agents who violate the rights of American taxpayers is promising to sue states with taxpayer dollars to block laws passed by elected legislators such as voter ID and citizenship verification.

"Every American voter deserves to have his or her vote counted - and not diluted by fraud or error. The DOJ just put itself between the voters of Texas and their guaranteed constitutional and civil rights.

"True the Vote has watched as Attorney General Eric Holder has repeatedly disregarded the rule of law," Engelbrecht continued. "We understand that this Department of Justice does not believe that protection of voters' rights should be colorblind.

"Texas will stand its ground in San Antonio - that's a promise."

San Antonio Looks to Ban Christians From City Government

Posted July 26, 2013

The San Antonio City Council, under the leadership of Mayor Julian Castro, is setting the stage for an unprecedented attack on religious liberty, particularly for Christians.

In early August, the City Council will consider an ordinance to add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the discrimination ordinances in the city code. The proposal would ban anyone that has ever opposed (“demonstrated bias, by word or deed…”) homosexuality from being involved in city government and/or performing a city contract/subcontract. The proposed ordinance provides no exemptions for religious beliefs on homosexuality, even beliefs expressed in Church.

Chart Westcott, crony hopeful

Posted July 26, 2013

If someone ever creates an award for the most lobby-rific new Texas Republican candidate in a political season, it needs to be called the Chart Westcott Award.

Chart Westcott, aka “Richie Rich”, is the 28 year-old son of privilege anointed by the Texas Republican establishment to replace Dan Branch, a lobby star in his own right now running for Attorney General.

Boy, someone has tried to gift wrap this seat for him.

First, it took him roughly 45 days to build up just shy of three quarters of a million dollars in his war chest. Chances are, those aren’t checks from the Lion’s Club.

Next, Westcott started the latest anti-conservative crony Republican PAC called “Conservative Values PAC”. The name is appropriate considering lobby moderates always get their votes by saying they are conservatives.

Texas Attorney General’s Office Obtains $1.4 Million Settlement against Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast for Medicaid Fraud

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast fraudulently billed Texas Medicaid program for products, services either not provided or not necessary

HOUSTON – The Texas Attorney General’s Office today concluded the State’s Medicaid fraud investigation into Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Inc. Under today’s agreement, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast must pay $1.4 million for fraudulently overbilling the taxpayer-funded Medicaid program.

After a whistleblower lawsuit was filed alleging improper billing practices by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, an investigation was opened by the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Office of Inspector General. The State’s investigation revealed that Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast improperly billed the Texas Medicaid program for products and services that were never actually rendered, not medically necessary, and were not covered by the Medicaid program – and were therefore not eligible for reimbursement.
