Judge Orders Sebelius To Make Exception For Girl Who Needs Lung Transplant

Posted June 6, 2013

The parents of Sarah Murnaghan have been desperately trying to have Sarah placed on the adult lung transplant list. They aren’t asking for any special treatment for their daughter, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, only that she be put on the list so she has a chance at a life-saving transplant. They also want the rules changed to benefit other children. A federal judge seems to agree with them, or at least he agrees that Sarah should be placed on the list, as he has ordered HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to make an exception.

The GOP and the IRS

Posted June 6, 2013

As usual, the Congress is all over a scandal after the fact.  The hearings on the IRS fiasco are good theatre and admittedly necessary; but where were the Republicans, not only over the past three years that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, but over the past three decades as the more and more power was granted to this same agency -- an agency with the potential to be transformed into a de facto secret police.  The Republicans were, by consistently agreeing to more complexities in the tax code and the need for stringent tax enforcement due to ever expanding government expenditures, complicit in the creation of a bureaucracy now out of control.

While tax reform is always a good item for inclusion in the Party's platform and sounds great on the campaign trail, it has never been seriously attempted as the nearly 74,000 pages of the tax code is one of the foundational elements of power in Washington D.C.  Within that immense waste of paper there is essentially something for everyone who can influence those in Congress, either Republican or Democrat, to insert a favorable provision for their clients. Those in Congress receive in return either campaign contributions or other favorable emoluments to guarantee re-election or a more pleasant standard of living.

EPA confesses to handing out farmers’ personal information to activist-lawyers.

Posted June 6, 2013

Executive summary (H/T: AoSHQ): the EPA just admitted that, yeah, it gave out a bunch of personal information about farmers and ranchers – including phone numbers, email addresses, regular addresses, and whatnot – to various environmental groups. The EPA also is kind of admitting that, yeah, maybe it shouldn’t have given out that information, which is why they’ve asked those groups to give that information back (note that the EPA apparently didn’t even bother to ask that the groups give back the information without making copies first). This is not amusing Senator John Thune, because a) the damage is done; b) apparently nobody in the EPA talks to Agriculture & Homeland Security, which both decided not to make this particular information available in a database; and c) there’s a question about whether or not all of this violates the Privacy Act of 1974.

Will the GOP Establishment that failed to block Cong. Kerry Bentivolio in '12 try again in '14?

Posted June 4, 2013 ~ Lee Cary

The local Republican establishment in the 11th Michigan Congressional District didn’t want Kerry Bentivolio to be their candidate for Congress, so they did all they could to confound his campaign. In the end, their efforts failed. On November 6, 2012, he was elected to Congress.

With the tea party targeting scandal in full swing, one senator is calling for the IRS to be permanently ABOLISHED

Posted June 5, 2013

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is a conservative's conservative, and the IRS's rampant political favoritism has brought him back to one of this signature campaign issues: getting rid of the tax collection agency for good.

'In recent weeks the IRS has admitted to unlawfully targeting conservative groups, and trying to silence the president's critics,' he says in a Web video launched May 27.

Federal legislators, he says 'need to make sure it never happens again. It's time to abolish the IRS.'

The video, which also ran last week as an audio-only ad during Sirius/XM simulcasts of Fox News Channel programs, was produced by the Senate Conservatives Fund, a wealthy political action committee that spent $3.5 million on candidate races in the 2012 election cycle.

Cedar Hill ISD parents raise sexual predator concerns with teacher’s improper relations charges

Church burns after parents' meeting

A month after the May 8 arrest of Bessie Coleman Middle School health teacher Marlena Mints for aggravated sexual assault with a child as well as for two charges of improper relationship with a child – all felony counts – some Cedar Hill ISD parents are hoping to have their concerns addressed at a “Safety Meeting” hosted by the district on Thursday, the last day of school.

It’s a wrap: Texas legislature drops boom on taxpayers with more tolls, fees

Posted June 3, 2013

Despite high hopes that lawmakers would address the chronic road funding shortfall at the outset of the 83rd session of the Texas legislature, Texas taxpayers only saw $534 million of $1.2 billion in diversions of gas tax returned to roads (for the next two years) with a reliance on more toll roads to fill the remaining $4 billion annual funding gap. That’s only one-eighth of the money needed.

While Texas Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, and Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus promised to end gas tax diversions and make transportation funding a priority, the Texas legislature went home without addressing one of the core priorities of state government - funding the Texas state highway system - in spite of an $8 billion surplus heading into the session. Indeed, the legislature spent it all and increased spending 26% for the biennium spurring grassroots watchdog groups like tea parties to ask Perry to veto the budget and supplemental spending bill, HB 1025.

Clear Lake Tea Party Issues Press Release Critical of 83rd Legislative Budget in Texas

Posted June 3, 2013

The CLTP has issued a press release expressing disappointment with the broken promises of the Governor and the House Speaker to pass a fiscally sound and conservative budget. Apparently, the more money available per the Texas Comptroller meant more money to spend.

The CLTP notes that very soon the lawmakers will be returning to their districts touting how “conservative” they were and bragging about how they did not raise taxes (in fact, they will claim they cut taxes by extending the small business margins tax).  We cannot wait for that to happen.

The CLTP is setting an example that we hope other tea party groups will follow by taking the corrupt, free-spending liberals and establishment RINOs to task and openly discussing the spending and budgeting choices made through the 2014 Texas primaries.

The Patriot Briefing by New Revolution Now

Posted June 3, 2013

Unfortunately, this session the bad bills outweigh the good. Due to poor leadership and so called Republicans with liberal agendas in both houses, many very good bills failed to get to the Governor. And many very bad bills are sitting on his desk. Until we get new leaders who are principled conservatives, this will continue to happen session after session. Governor Perry can show true conservative leadership by putting many of the good bills back into a special session. Encourage him to do so. All the more reason to get engaged now. New and exciting grassroots developments coming soon.

SB-1 and HB-1025  General and supplemental appropriation bills.

  • Status: On the Governor's desk
  • Recommendation: STRONGLY AGAINST
  • Research: Real Texas Budget Solutions
  • Comment: The current budget bill raises spending by 26% and provides for too little tax relief. This will be bad for the Texas economy and it's citizens.
  • Call to action: Contact Governor Perry's office and encourage him to veto the bills and call for a special session on the budget.

SB 1406 Relating to State Board of Education oversight of regional education service center activities concerning certain curriculum management systems.

  • Status: On the Governor's desk.
  • Recommendation: STRONGLY FOR
  • Research: CSCOPE or C-SCAM?
  • Comment:  This legislation will shed the light of public scrutiny on the controversial CSCOPE curriculum.
  • Call to action: Contact Governor Perry's office and encourage him to sign this bill.

SB 2 Relating to charter schools and home-rule charter school districts.

  • Status: On the Governor's desk.
  • Recommendation: FOR
  • Comment: Will lift the cap on the creation of charter schools and create more choice.
  • Additional Research: Lifting the cap on charters
  • Call to action: Contact Governor Perry's office and encourage him to sign this bill.

Other calls to action: Contact Governor Perry's office and encourage him to VETO the following BAD bills:

HB 2103 - Allows the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the Texas Workforce Commission to share personal data with education research centers in Texas and across the nation  - the data goes back 20 years.

HB 5 - Decimates the "measuring stick" (STAAR/EOC's) so that parents will not know whether their children have been taught Type #1 or Type #2 curriculum (such as CSCOPE, Common Core Standards, Safari Montage, TASA iCLOUD) until it is too late.

HB 866 - Companion to HB 5 to destroy the measuring stick - >From Grades 3 - 8, students are only tested twice in Writing on an objective instrument (STAAR), once in Social Studies, two times in Science, three times in Math, and three times in Reading.

HB 2836 - Takes away authority over the curriculum standards (TEKS) from our elected Texas State Board of Education members.

HB 1675 - Moves back Sunset Review of the Education Service Centers to Sept. 1, 2019

HB 2824 - Lets a consortium of so-called "high performing" (mostly mediocre) school districts off the hook in terms of testing and accountability, thus freeing them up to do teaching and learning to whatever goals and standards they choose.
SB 1730 - that sells-off 23 Texas roads to private, foreign companies!
