Diplomat: U.S. Special Forces told "you can't go" to Benghazi during attacks

Posted May 7, 2013

he deputy of slain U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens has told congressional investigators that a team of Special Forces prepared to fly from Tripoli to Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks was forbidden from doing so by U.S. Special Operations Command Africa.

The account from Gregory Hicks is in stark contrast to assertions from the Obama administration, which insisted that nobody was ever told to stand down and that all available resources were utilized. Hicks gave private testimony to congressional investigators last month in advance of his upcoming appearance at a congressional hearing Wednesday.

Huckabee: Obama will be ousted over Benghazi

Posted May 7, 2013

Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said on his radio show Monday that President Obama “will not fill out his full term” because he was complicit in a “cover-up” surrounding the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in Libya.

“I believe that before it’s all over, this president will not fill out his full term,” Huckabee said. “I know that puts me on a limb, but this is not minor.”

“When a president lies to the American people and is part of a cover-up, he cannot continue to govern,” he added. “And as the facts come out, I think we’re going to see something startling. And before it’s over, I don’t think this president will finish his term unless somehow they can delay it in Congress past the next three and a half years.”

Justice Department to monitor South Carolina congressional election

Posted May 7, 2013

Former South Carolina Republican Governor Mark Sanford is facing Democratic newcomer Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of television political satirist Stephen Colbert, in the First District House race.

The Justice Department said in a statement it was monitoring the election under provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The law bars election discrimination on the basis of race, color or membership in a minority language group.

The department did not give a reason for the monitoring. Tuesday's vote will take place under South Carolina's new law mandating photo identification for voters, and Justice Department monitors observed primary elections.

Colorado’s new gun law drives four recall efforts

Posted May 7, 2013

As Colorado lawmakers entered the last frenzied 72 hours of the legislative session — 90 bills were still on the docket when the legislature was called to order Monday morning — four state politicians are facing efforts to recall them from office.

Recall drives are in full swing against Senate Democrats John Morse, Evie Hudak and Angela Giron as well as Democratic Rep. Mike McLachlan.

Citizens groups angry about these lawmakers’ stances on gun control are collecting signatures to try and force a special election. To make the ballot, they must collect a number of signatures equal to 25 percent of the total vote in their districts.

Court Kills Obamacare Lawsuit Against Bible Publisher

On Monday, the Obama administration requested dismissal of a suit the government had filed against Bible publisher Tyndale House Publishers, which refused to implement the Obamacare mandate to provide employees’ birth control.

“Bible publishers should be free to do business according to the book that they publish,” Senior Legal Counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom Matt Bowman told LifeSiteNews. “The government dismissed its appeal because it knows how ridiculous it sounds arguing that a Bible publisher isn’t religious enough to qualify as a religious employer.”

This marks the first wholesale legal loss for the Obama administration in its quest to force religious Americans to pay for services that violate their religious precepts.

Internet sales tax faces a tougher sell in the House after passing Senate

Posted May 7, 2013

Internet taxes? Not so fast.

A bill that would let states collect Internet sales taxes from online retailers and their customers may have sailed through the Senate, but it is expected to face much more resistance from tax-wary Republicans in the House.

Golf Summit: Obama Hits Links with Senators to Talk Over 'Range of Issues'

Posted May 7, 2013

President Obama, supposedly at his wit’s end to find common ground with Congressional Republicans, has now opened a new front in his thus-far-unsuccessful “charm offensive”: golf diplomacy. Today, President Obama plans to golf with three senators: Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), and Sen. Mark Udall (D-UT). According to Mark Knoller of CBS News, Obama has golfed 120 rounds since becoming president, but has only invited members of Congress three times: twice with Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and once with Speaker of the House John Boehner.

Corker is a member of the Committees on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, as well as Foreign Relations. Udall is on the Committees on Armed Services and Energy and Natural Resources. Chambliss is on the Armed Services Committee, as well as the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry. Both Corker and Chambliss have shown willingness to raise taxes in the past.

Obama Rolls Back $5 Billion in Sequester Cuts

Posted May 6, 2013

The White House budget office is using an obscure budget rule to restore $5 billion in sequester-related cuts.

The recalculation trick will mean the State Department will no longer have to furlough employees, will spare the Pentagon $4 billion in cuts to the rate of spending growth, and will replenish $1 billion to the budgets of agencies including the Homeland Security Department and NASA.

Shocking report discovers Tea Partiers are conservatives, think GOP too soft

Posted May 6, 2013

That headline is sarcastic, of course. The liberal American Prospect recently reported on a new study of Tea Party members (or more precisely, a poll of FreedomWorks members) by the College of William & Mary. It found three things:

1- “Tea Party activists are not Republicans.” — “While 70 percent of FreedomWorks activists identify as Republican, another 23 percent reject the Republican label entirely and instead, when asked which political party they identify with, choose “other. Asked if they considered themselves more Republican or more a Tea Party member, more than three-quarters chose Tea Party.”

2- “Tea Party activists nearly as concerned about winning.”  – “More than three-fourths of respondents preferred the candidate who was more likely to lose but shared their positions.” That is, as opposed to a candidate who didn’t share all of their views but had a better chance of winning.

No Net Tax

Why I Oppose the Internet Tax Bill

By Sen. Ted Cruz - May 5, 2013 (Posted May 7, 2013)

Basic tenets of economics dictate that when you tax something, you get less of it. That’s why it’s incomprehensible that the U.S. Senate is moving to raise taxes on one of the brightest sectors of our struggling economy.

The Internet is a thriving ecosystem of entrepreneurial freedom that should be protected and nourished. It has allowed new businesses to compete in the national marketplace in ways that would have been impossible 15 years ago, and it empowers consumer choice. But tax-hungry politicians view the Internet as yet another source of revenue to bail out their big-spending governments.

The misleadingly titled Marketplace Fairness Act is a job-killing tax hike, plain and simple. It is, in effect, a national Internet sales tax, which would hammer the little guy and benefit giant corporations.

Republicans ride on Cruz control

Posted May 7, 2013

Conservative Republicans, including former Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), head of the Heritage Foundation, applaud Cruz’s willingness to challenge the status quo in the Senate Republican caucus.

The Texan has become a hero of movement conservatives by taking on members of his own party and scolding them for apathy and defeatism.

It is what many had hoped to see from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who like Cruz defeated a heavily-favored opponent backed by the establishment in a Republican primary. But Rubio has taken a more cautious approach and irked conservatives recently by teaming up with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to craft immigration legislation.
Cruz’s aggression has also rankled colleagues in a chamber where seniority rules.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) called Cruz and his conservative colleague Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) “wacko birds” and dismissed their attempted filibuster of the nomination of CIA director John Brennan as ridiculous. McCain later apologized for the “wacko birds” remark.
Many conservative activists outside of Washington, on the other hand, are delighted with Cruz. “I’ve been in about 25 cities in the last few months. All I have to do is bring up Ted Cruz’s name and people stand up and applaud,” DeMint said. “What people want outside of Washington is totally different of what you hear on the inside of Washington.

Is Cy-Fair ISD illegally using tax dollars to lobby?

Posted May 7, 2013

Connie Sadowski at Red Apple Project reports the following regarding the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD):
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD continues to use taxpayer dollars to lobby the legislature in opposition to bills that would help students get a ‘free and appropriate education’ as required by the Texas Constitution. A Cy-Fair ISD attorney has told us in the past that their lobbying the legislature is legal. We wonder if the State Attorney General would agree.

Cy-Fair ISD is afraid that when Cy-Fair parents are given a choice, they would choose a mass-exodus of Cy Fair ISD schools.

Are they not proud of their schools? Any district that warns of a mass exodus of students and tax dollars can’t be very proud of their teachers or students, and are misleading parents of the true purpose of school choice.

Carville: 'Ted Cruz Is the Most Talented and Fearless Republican Politician I’ve Seen in 30 Years'

Posted May 6, 2013

Democratic strategist and former Bill Clinton adviser James Carville said something about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) on ABC's This Week Sunday that is guaranteed to raise eyebrows on both sides of the aisle.

"I think he is the most talented and fearless Republican politician I’ve seen in the last 30 years."

JAMES CARVILLE: I think he is the most talented and fearless Republican politician I’ve seen in the last 30 years. I further think that he’s going to run for president and he is going to create something. I’m not sitting here saying he’s going to win, and I think Senator DeMint is right. I’ve listened to excerpts of his speech in South Carolina. He touches every button, and this guy has no fear. He just keeps plowing ahead. And he is going to be something to watch.

And a lot of Republicans feel this way, George, and you hear this a lot: "If we only got someone who was articulate and was for what we were for, we would win elections. And we get these John McCains and these Mitt Romneys and these squishy guys that can’t do anything." Well, there’s one thing this guy is not - he ain’t squishy, not in the least.

When is Amnesty NOT Amnesty?

Posted May 6, 2013 ~ by George Rodriguez

When is “a path way to citizenship” not amnesty or a reward? Over the past few weeks, I have been criticized by some conservatives and Republicans for “confusing” the two terms. I have expressed my concern that some Texas Tea Party groups, like the San Antonio Tea Party, may have bought off on the idea that there is a difference between a “path way” and amnesty.

However, in my opinion, anyone who willfully entered the country illegally should not be eligible for citizenship…ever. My reasons for this hard position are these.

First, unless there is a severe and costly penalty to willful illegal entry, the problem will continue forever. This second “adjustment” for the millions of illegal immigrants will only lead to a third, and fourth, and so forth, because there is no absolute penalty for illegal entry.

MILLER: Rick Perry says Obama wants to ‘disarm the American public’

Posted May 6, 2013

Gov. Rick Perry sat back in shock when I told him President Obama told Mexicans that an upside of his efforts to infringe the Second Amendment would be to make them safer. The Texas Republican, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), pushed back his chair and thought before speaking.

“The idea that a United States president would go to Mexico and make that statement is incredulous,” the 2012 president candidate told me in an interview after his rousing speech at the NRA annual meeting in Houston Friday. “His goal —  well before he became president of the United States  — was to try to disarm the American public. He just disregards the Constitution.”
