Chris Matthews, Democratic congressman suggest Tax Day tie to Boston attacks

Posted April 16, 2013

During MSNBC’s coverage of the Boston Marathon explosion, “Hardall” host Chris Matthews and Democratic Massachusetts Rep. William Keating speculated on what may have motivated the bombing.

Keating pointed out that it could be related to Tax Day.

“Now, we have an international event, the marathon, the oldest marathon,” Keating said. “And we also have Tax Day, April 15, so we don’t know if that’s the kind of symbol a domestic terrorist might use as well. So there’s a lot that’s not known, but we’re beginning to get a lot of information that will be shared with the public for their own safety. But a word of caution to everyone to just to really be careful.”

Matthews remarked on the Tax Day suggestion, saying that it sometimes causes emotions “in the wrong parts of the brain.”

Obama: ‘People shouldn’t jump to conclusions’ about Boston Marathon bombing

Posted April 16, 2013

President Obama pledged that the United States would punish anyone responsible for the explosions at the Boston Marathon today, but he said that “people shouldn’t jump to conclusions” about the tragedy.

“We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before they have all the facts,” Obama told reporters during a statement from the White House.  “Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice,” he added.

Al-Qaeda Propagandist Called for Attacks on Sports Events

Posted April 16, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – Although no group has claimed responsibility for Monday’s deadly bomb blasts at the Boston Marathon, a leading al-Qaeda ideologue last year recommended that jihadists in America include sporting events in their list of prospective terror targets.

Writing in the online magazine of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Inspire, the terrorist known as Abu Musab al-Suri listed what he called “the most important enemy targets.”

Congress Guts Key Provision from Government Insider Trading Law

Posted April 16, 2013

Last week, the House and Senate passed a bill that would gut a key provision of the popular STOCK (Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge) Act that bans congressional insider trading and increases financial transparency for lawmakers, members of the executive branch, and their staffs.

The bill passed last week strikes down the STOCK Act’s requirement that financial records of some 28,000 federal officials—which are already publicly available in paper form—be made available online via searchable databases. Government watchdog groups say this provision would have increased transparency and helped root out potential financial conflicts of interest and cronyism in government deals, grants, and contracts.

Sophists run our immigration conversation

Posted April 16, 2013

Most laws are meant to stop people from doing something, and to penalize those who disregard those laws. More generally, laws are meant to protect the society from the law breakers.

But our immigration laws are different. Here the whole focus is on the "plight" of those who have broken the laws, and on what can be done to lift the stigma and ease the pressures they feel, so that they can "come out of the shadows" and "normalize" their lives.

Merely using the word "illegal" to describe their breaking the law is considered to be a sign of mean-spiritedness, if not racism. The Associated Press refuses to let their reporters refer to people who sneaked across the border into this country, in violation of American immigration laws, as "illegal immigrants."

On the other hand, if an ordinary American citizen breaks a law, no one cares if he has to live in fear for years -- "in the shadows," as it were -- worrying that his illegal act will be discovered and punished. No one bothers to come up with euphemisms to keep from calling what he did illegal.

McCain: Boston Tragedy Could Delay Immigration Bill

Posted April 16, 2013

A key senator says the unveiling of a sweeping immigration bill set for Tuesday could be delayed because of the tragedy at the Boston marathon.

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona says the roll-out could happen Wednesday instead.

The bill would secure the border, remake legal immigration, boost workplace enforcement and put 11 million people here illegally on a path to citizenship.

Immigration activists and business and religious leaders had been invited to an event Tuesday to release the bill.

Bloomberg: If You Sell a Gun to Your Son, 'There's Something Wrong in Your Family'

Posted April 16, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – If you sell a gun to your son, “there’s something wrong with your family," says New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In a radio appearance on Friday, Bloomberg, a gun control activist and co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, praised the legislation that is now moving forward in the Senate.  The bill would require universal background checks for most sales of firearms, including those online and at gun shows.

“The only thing it would not cover is if you sold a gun to your son, for example,” Bloomberg told radio host John Gambling.  “Number one, I don't know how we would ever enforce that if it were the law. So to make a big deal about that's carved out, so what? It doesn't change anything.”

“Number two, I would argue if you want to sell your gun to your son, maybe you have a problem in your family,” he said.  “Why don't you just give—I don't know if you should have a gun or not, but if you have a commercial transaction of $100 with your son, there's something wrong in your family.

WH Won’t Comment on Gosnell, Maintains Obama’s Support for Abortion

Posted April 16, 2013

CNSNews.com) – White House Press Secretary Jay Carney declined to comment on the trial of the Philadelphia abortionist charged with the murder of one woman and seven born babies, but stressed, “the president’s position on choice is very clear.”

President Barack Obama, while serving in the Illinois state senate in 2003, opposed a born alive infant protection bill that would assure that a baby born after a botched abortion would be cared for.

Manchin-Toomey 'Compromise' Creates $100m Yearly Grants To Bribe States

Posted April 15, 2013

The Background Check 'Compromise' put forward by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) creates $100 million in grants for "each of fiscal years 2014 through 2017" for the federal government to disperse to states if those states implement the expanded background check system contained in the bill.

As Sec. 103 says, from this money amounts will be made available
by the State, or units of local government of the State, Indian Tribal government, or State Court system to improve the automation and transmittal of mental health records and criminal history dispositions, records relevant to determining whether a person has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, court orders, and mental health adjudications or commitments to Federal and State records repositories.

Machin-Toomey Background Check 'Compromise' Regulates Transportation of Firearms, Ammunition

Posted April 15, 2013

The background check 'compromise' put forth by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) sets new rules for how individuals must transport firearms if taking them from one place to another.

These new rules are on top of expanding background checks to cover every sale at a gun show, events on the lawn outside the building where a gun show is being held, newspaper and magazine "gun for sale" advertisements, and online "gun for sale" announcements.
Regarding transportation, Sec. 128  of the Manchin-Toomey "compromise" says persons who are not knowingly transporting a firearm for use in a crime nor transporting it into a situation where a crime may be committed, shall be "entitled" to "transport a firearm in a vehicle" if:
The firearm is not directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle; or if the motor vehicle is without a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, the firearm is in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console, or secured by a secure gun storage or safety device, or if the transportation is by other means, the firearm is in a locked container or secured by a secure gun storage or safety device.

International Baccalaureate World Schools: The Radical Transformation of America’s Classrooms

Posted April 15, 2013

Liberal education has been very successful in this country because nobody challenged the progressive educators and their agenda. We are waking up to the unraveling of our society caused by this liberal education and wondering, what happened. Could it be too late to reverse the damage?

Conservative news outlets are pointing out the obvious—our children have been indoctrinated into socialism for 33-40 years and this indoctrination is finally bearing fruit. We have bred a nation of young, entitled citizens who do not like to work, do not like to read or study anything too involved or complicated that exceeds Twitter’s 140 words, do not take responsibility for their actions, exhibit righteous indignation if their demands are not met, claim racism and hate speech if others disagree with them, and are afraid of their shadows.

Students no longer explore and discuss the history of America even in the History Department of the local college—it has long been replaced by courses that praise and promote sexual, “racial and ethnic differences,” instead of highlighting our common American heritage, what made America great and an exceptional nation that has contributed to the betterment of mankind. Socialist professors admire, teach, and laud the history of non-western cultures as superior to our own culture.

Castro, 8 council members face ethics complaints

Posted April 16, 2013

Tea party PAC filed charges with state.

A Southeast Texas political group has filed complaints alleging improper reporting and other infractions in campaign finance documents against nine City Council members, including the mayor.

The group says it's retaliation against the council's 2011 decision to offer benefits to the domestic partners of city employees.

Calling itself the Texas Ethics Advisory Board, the tea party-affiliated political action committee targets “progressive candidates, officeholders and political action committees who have long been contributing to the runaway growth of government.”

Huntsville resident William “Bill” Elmer, chairman of the advisory board, and three others filed complaints in early March with the state-run Texas Ethics Commission against Mayor Julián Castro and council members Diego Bernal, Ivy Taylor, Leticia Ozuna, Rey Saldaña, David Medina, Ray Lopez, Cris Medina and Reed Williams.

Constitutional Experts Support Texas Religious Freedom Amendment

Posted April 15, 2013

A group of distinguished religious liberty and constitutional experts, including leading law professors from Harvard, Notre Dame, Stanford, University of Texas, St. Mary’s and others, have released a letter in support of the Texas Religious Freedom Amendment (HJR 110 and SJR 4). They argue that putting the protection in our state constitution will give our religious freedom protection “greater visibility and greater insulation from shifting political majorities.” Read the letter.

"Obama Will Let Me Go"

Posted April 15, 2013

The debate in Washington on immigration reform has had no political impact, but the debate is having a major impact on south Texas, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Officials say the number of people entering the U.S. illegally is way up and, tragically, the number of undocumented immigrants who have been found dead in the unforgiving Texas Brush Country is way up, and is on path this year to beat last year's record for the number of people found dead in the ranch country.

Linda Vickers, who owns a ranch in Brooks County, which is Ground Zero for the immigration debate, pins the blame directly on talk of 'amnesty' and a 'path to citizenship' for people who entered the U.S. illegally.

She recalls one man being arrested on her ranch not long ago.

"The Border Patrol agent was loading one man up, and he told the officer in Spanish, 'Obama's gonna let me go'."

Austin ISD Approves Same-Sex Benefits

Posted April 15, 2013

Austin ISD, under the direction of Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, has announced that the district would join Pflugerville ISD in beginning to offer same-sex domestic partnership benefits. We have argued in detail that the creation and recognition of “domestic partnerships” by any governmental entity is a clear violation of the Texas Constitution. Earlier this week, Texas Values testified in favor of HB 1568 by Rep. Springer that would essentially eliminate the healthcare funding for any school district that seeks to offer these benefits. The only item for discussion was whether Texas voters should exert the powers reserved to the people under Article 1, Section 2 of the Texas Constitution in order to address the Texas government for its continued failure to affirm and uphold the sovereignty of Texas as declared in Article 1, Section 1 of the Texas Constitution, or our individual rights as established in our Bill of Rights in both the Texas and U.S. Constitutions.

Find Out Why Sen. Ted Cruz Thinks Obama Has ‘Set the Stage’ for GOP to Take Control of the Senate in 2014

Posted April 12, 2013

During an interview with Laura Ingraham on her radio program Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) slammed President Barack Obama for “trying to take advantage” of the tragic Newtown shooting to push gun control. He also predicted that the administration’s quest to impose stricter gun laws will come back to haunt them in 2014.

Police, ‘anti-gun’ prosecutor clash with soldiers in area around Fort Hood [VIDEO]

Posted April 12, 2013

The conflict between law enforcement and armed military personnel in the community around Fort Hood, one of America’s largest military bases, has recently and repeatedly involved the issue of gun control — and the tension has been exacerbated in part by an Obama-supporting prosecutor described as a “bandleader” of anti-gun efforts in the heavily conservative community.

The conflict reached a fever pitch last month, when Texas police arrested an active-duty army sergeant for “rudely displaying” a hunting rifle. The sergeant, C.J. Grisham, established an online legal defense fund after he was, in his words, “illegally arrested and disarmed” for carrying the firearm.
