Rep blasts higher ed aid to Pakistan, as military suspends US tuition assistance

Posted March 20, 2013

Why is the U.S. funding higher education for its "Benedict Arnold ally" Pakistan when the Pentagon is cutting tuition assistance for American troops?

That's the question Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, asked as he prepared to introduce a bill Tuesday to give Pakistan aid the "sequester" treatment -- halting the money until U.S. tuition assistance is restored.

"Why are we funding education programs for our Benedict Arnold ally when we can't fund -- or don't fund -- the education for our military? And to Pakistan of all places, where hatred for America is at its highest. Washington should watch its spending and prioritize," Poe said on the floor Monday. "It's time, Mr. Speaker, to sequester Pakistan."

Poe is the latest congressional lawmaker to try and short-circuit the tuition assistance cuts, which the administration began to make in light of the sequester. Last week, Sens. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., and Kay Hagan, D-N.C., also introduced an amendment to a budget bill to restore the program.

Former Top Obama Official: Obamacare Transition Will Be 'Messy'

Posted March 20, 2013

During a Center for American Progress seminar on Monday, a former top Obama administration official charged with developing Obamacare said the shift to the president’s healthcare overhaul will be “messy” and fraught with “unanticipated” challenges.

"We know it's going to be messy," said Jeffrey Crowley. "There are going to be things that come up that are unanticipated.”

The panel discussion centered on how Obamacare will affect HIV/AIDS and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. "If we do everything we can possibly think of, it's still going to be a messy transition, but we'll end up in a better place," said Crowley.

ICE Admits 200+ Serious Criminal Illegals Released

Posted March 20, 2013

While the Obama White House proclaims that these releases were not dangerous, Morton admitted that 30 percent had criminal records, and 10 percent had criminal records worse than one or two misdemeanors. That means approximately 200 relatively serious criminals were released. Eight Level-1 criminal offenders were released; four are still at large. Level-1 offenders are the most serious offenders.

Led by Sen. Mike Enzi, Republicans Will Vote to Raise Taxes & Tax iTunes Downloads

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | March 20th, 2013

Congressional Republicans led by Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, are about to raise Americans’ taxes and set in place the foundation for states to be able to tax downloads from the internet, including from places like iTunes. Senators Durbin and Enzi are inserting an internet tax as an amendment to the Senate budget bill.

The tax sounds innocuous enough. The tax is hiding under legislation called the Marketplace Fairness Act. The Act purportedly just harmonizes state laws so internet sales are also taxed. After all, it is not fair that Amazon does not charge all its customers sales taxes. It puts them at a competitive advantage over mom and pop shops. Sounds good until you realize what’s actually going on with this latest scheme to peddle “fairness.”

One day I will have a scorecard for conservatives. And those Republicans who vote for the Marketplace Fairness Act in any form will be blackballed from that scorecard. Until then, I hope groups like Club for Growth and Heritage Action will score against it. It is a damnable piece of legislation whose backers are a whose who of major corporations.

Establishment Desperate as GOP Civil War turns in favor of the Grassroots

Posted March 19, 2013

The Subsidiarity Times) The GOP Civil War has begun to unravel the Republican Party as many strategists now begin to fear that the party will soon split in two. The war, which officially began with the purge of the four fiscally responsible U.S. representatives from their committees by Speaker of the House John Boehner in late 2012, has grown and expanded as the first two months of the year 2013 have progressed. Across the nation, members of the three major grassroots groups (Ron Paul's Liberty Movement, the grassroots-oriented Tea Party and the religiously-oriented Social Conservatives) have made determined efforts to reject pushes by Establishment Republicans and RINOs (Republicans-in-name-only) to regain control of the local Republican Parties, which they have slowly been losing control of since 2010. The war is only beginning to heat up and looks to become more nasty as the year 2013 continues. What shall be presented now is a summary of the civil war since December.

Why Is Texas the ‘Number One Place in the Nation to Do Business’? Gov. Rick Perry Tells Us [The Blaze]

Posted March 19, 2013

Five of the top six cities for good jobs in the U.S. are located in Texas, a state that also enjoyed a budget surplus of roughly $8.8 billion in 2012. That’s no coincidence, Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) told TheBlaze.

To determine the ten best cities for good jobs, Forbes obtained data on the 100 largest metropolitan areas from Moody’s Analytics, which gets the majority of its data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The cities were ranked on more than just raw job growth and volume of low-wage jobs added. Forbes took into account unemployment rate, employment growth, per-capita income, estimated future employment, future job growth numbers and other factors.

Here are the top 10 cities for good jobs, a list dominated by Texas:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry Breaks From GOP Establishment, Blasts McCain and Romney in CPAC Speech

Posted March 18, 2013

After beginning his speech with the line “God bless Texas” at CPAC Thursday afternoon, Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry said the popular media narrative that the U.S. has shifted away from conservatism is false. He slammed the establishment GOP for not nominating true conservatives in the last two elections.

“That’s what they think. That’s what they say,” Perry said. “That might be true if Republicans had actually nominated conservative candidates in 2008 and 2012.”

Obviously, the Texas governor was referring to failed GOP presidential candidates Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Mitt Romney. By his estimation, neither one is actually a conservative.
