Senate Dems Hide Budget Proposal, Reportedly $1 Trillion in Tax Hikes

Posted March 13, 2013

Senate Democrats, including Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray, are hiding their budget from their Republican colleagues, Breitbart News has learned exclusively. Murray did share her budget plan with her Democratic colleagues on Tuesday.

The budget is scheduled for markup on Wednesday morning in committee, and senators are only expected to read opening statements at the hearing. It will not be until later on Wednesday that Republicans will be allowed to read the full budget proposal.

After Passing CR That Funds Obamacare, GOP Presents Budget Symbolically Repealing It

Posted March 13, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – One week after voting to give the Obama administration full funding for the implemenation of Obamacare in the must-pass contrinuing resolution that will fund the federal government for the rest of fiscal 2013, the House Republicans are once again vowing to symbolically repeal Obamacare in legislation that is not must-pass.

“We don’t like this law,” House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said of Obamacare as he unveiled his budget for fiscal year 2014 at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.  “This is why we’re proposing to repeal this law in our budget.”

Illegal immigrants sue border agents for detainment in cold cell

Posted March 13, 2013

Illegal immigrants joined with U.S. citizens to file a handful of lawsuits on Tuesday, claiming they suffered human rights abuses at the hands of federal border agents.

Immigrant advocacy groups filed the suits for 10 plaintiffs, USA Today reports. They allege Customs and Border Protection Agency officials forced illegal immigrants who were captured in southern Texas to sit in freezing cold holding cells that had no toilets.

Lawyers for the immigrants say the cell — dubbed the “ice box” — represented a pattern of abuse by the border agents.

Record 18.7 Million Students in FY 2012 Got ‘Free’ Lunch

Posted March 13, 2013

(CNSNews.com) - It is an old saying that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but a record 18.7 million American schoolchildren would not have learned that lesson when they attended school in fiscal year 2012.

That is because U.S. taxpayers—via the U.S. Department of Agriculture—were picking up the tab for their lunch.

According to new data from the USDA, during the average school month in fiscal year 2012, 18.7 million students in U.S. high schools and grammar schools were given completely free lunches, courtesy of the department’s National School Lunch Program. That was up from the record of 18.4 million that was set in fiscal 2011.

Democrats Release 'Discussion Draft' of Carbon Tax Bill

Posted March 13, 2013

House Democrats released a “discussion draft” of carbon tax legislation Tuesday and requested feedback on whether pricing per ton of carbon should result in a $15, $25, or $35 tax, as well as whether the price per ton annual increase should be 2% or up to 8%.

“Let’s send a signal to big polluters that it’s past time to start putting a price on carbon pollution,” said Rep. Blumenauer (D-OR). “This proposal has a great deal of potential to help protect the environment, reduce the deficit, create jobs, and support the transition to clean energy sources and low carbon transportation options."

Reps. Henry A. Waxman (D-CA) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) circulated the carbon tax bill.

Big-spending Obamas cost 23 times more than British royal family

Posted March 13, 2013

When compared to the cost of maintaining the first family, the British royal family members are a bunch of outright pikers.

We use the phrase, “live like a king,” to describe the epitome of living large. When we do so, we’re talking real mansions — not the fake “McMansions” popular among today’s nouveau riche. Also included are the second and third homes, annual European vacations, exotic cars, fancy yachts and private jets — the whole schemer.

But what would it take to live not “like a king,” but as a king?
According to Wikipedia, that would be 40 million pounds, or about $60 million. Now that’s what I call living, something a guy could get used to. But as it turns out, it’s nothing as compared to what the first family spends.

The cost of maintaining our own royal family — the Obamas — is a whopping $1.4 billion with a “B,” as reported by the National Review. That means that Queen Elizabeth and her family’s expenses are a mere 4.3 percent of the Obama clan. Stated differently, the Obamas spend more than 23 times what the British royal family does.

Cruz Will Use 'Any Procedural Means Necessary’ to Force Vote on Defunding Obamacare

Posted March 12, 2013

(CNSNews.com) - When the U.S. Senate this week takes up the continuing resolution to fund the federal government for the remainder of fiscal year 2013, Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) will offer an amendment that will prohibit funding for the implementation of Obamacare during that period.

“I believe we will have a vote on this amendment and I have said I am willing to employ any procedural means necessary to ensure that we do get a vote on the amendment,” Cruz told reporters today.

How To Rescue The Republicans From The Grave Karl Rove Is Digging For Them

Posted March 12, 2013

Is the GOP going the way of the Whigs?   And, if so, can a new enthusiastic determination to defend our Constitutional rights save it?

Jeffrey Bell, policy director for the American Principles Project (which this columnist professionally advises), presents a compellingly grim scenario in a recent column, entitled Losing Streak: The Democratic Ascendency and Why It Happened, in The Weekly Standard.

Bell was one of the key intellectual architects of the Reagan-era Republican ascendancy. On top of his important work for Reagan and his own U.S. Senate race, Bell’s greatest impact may have been that of his role as one of Jack Kemp’s privy-counselors.  Economic policy, thanks to Kemp and his inner circle of supply siders, would never be the same.   Over a billion people came out of abject poverty thanks to the changed economic discussion, and Kemp, Bell and others played a big role in changing it.

Obamacare: Seven Feet of Job-Killing Regulations

Posted March 12, 2013

Senate Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell sent out a shocking photo showing what it looks like if you stack every page of Obamacare regulations one on top of the other. The stack reaches to more than seven feet in height and is so big it might take a 3-D printer to print it all.

"This is over 20,000 pages and measures 7' 2.5"," McConnell said of the amazing photo. "These are all the Obamacare regulations published in the Federal Register up through last week. Then last Friday they added another 828 pages."

These additions seemingly come on a monthly basis as Congress finally starts finding out, as Rep. Pelosi said, "what's in the bill" and more rules are added, clarified, and altered.

Judge Smacks Down Bloomberg's 'Capricious' Soda Cup Ban

Posted March 12, 2013

A New York state judge on Monday permanently restrained Mayor Michael Bloomberg from banning the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 oz. from various restaurants, mobile food carts, and other establishments, ruling the law was "arbitrary and capricious."

According to the Wall Street Journal, New York Supreme Court Judge Milton Tingling ruled the city is "enjoined and permanently restrained from implementing or enforcing the new regulations" because they are "fraught with arbitrary and capricious consequences."

What’s up with the build-up in DHS firepower?

Posted March 11, 2013 - Lee Cary

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is growing its firepower capability to respond to widespread disorder within America.

Until someone leaks a memo that reveals why, the public is wondering what’s up with the ramp-up.

Go stand in a line outside a large sporting goods store that sells ammo an hour before it opens and ask those in line – mostly men, but a few women – why they’re there.  A variety of explanations surface:

The federal government is moving toward gun control by first limiting citizen access to ammo.

The feds plan to disarm the citizenry and is limiting ammo to decrease the severity of any armed resistance to that move.

Some expect that, someday, only criminals will be armed, and law-abiding citizens will be left defenseless when their families and property are threatened.

Defunding Obamacare

Posted March 12, 2013

This week, Sen. Cruz will push for a vote on his amendment to defund Obamacare.

The effort to stop Obamacare is one of the most critical challenges of our time. Even before being fully implemented, Obamacare is already hurting small business, reducing hours Americans are able to work, forcing employers to drop coverage, and leading to substantial increases in healthcare premiums—especially for young people. If fully implemented, Obamacare will create an even further drag on the economy, killing more jobs and stifling opportunity.

Our economy desperately needs robust economic growth and as long as Obamacare is on the books, it will stand in the way of job creation and prosperity. The longer Obamacare is on the books, the more damage it will do.

That's why Sen. Cruz has introduced legislation to repeal Obamacare and an amendment to defund it.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Last Friday, Rep. Matt Krause filed H.B. 3302, which would close loopholes in our
current judicial bypass system that has enabled many minors to have an abortion without any parental

"No major medical decision of a minor child should be made without the involvement and guidance of a
parent or guardian," said Rep. Matt Krause. "Besides the need for love and support during such an
emotionally difficult time, minors are ill-equipped to undertake a life-changing procedure alone--they
typically do not know the full extent of their medical history, allergies, and without their parents'
involvement there is no one available in the advent of a medical emergency following the abortion."

Last week, in a widely publicized hearing, Sen. Cruz pressed Attorney General Eric Holder about the Administration’s policy on the use of drones. Holder finally conceded that it is unconstitutional to kill a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil who does not pose an imminent threat. You can watch and share the full video of Sen. Cruz’s remarks during the hearing here.

Also, Sen. Cruz played a leading role supporting Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) who took to the Senate floor on Wednesday for an incredible 13 hours to filibuster the nomination of John Brennan to Director of the CIA over the administration’s drone policy.

If you’d like to watch video of Sen. Cruz’s participation in the filibuster they are all available here.

CSCOPE: Exposing the Nation’s Most Controversial Public School Curriculum System

Posted March 11, 2013

In February, Texas announced that the state, along with the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum (TESCCC,) would enact major changes to the controversial curriculum management system dubbed CSCOPE. The system received a litany of complaints from faculty members and parents alike concerning its lack of transparency (parents were allegedly not permitted to review lesson-plans), lack of oversight from the State Board of Education, and for allegedly imposing oppressive working conditions for faculty members.

CSCOPE was created so that teachers could frame their year around teaching points required by the state. Lessons, which are written by CSCOPE staff and current and former teachers, can be updated and delivered online, making it more cost-effective than standard textbooks.

To note just how off-color some of the CSCOPE curriculum is, consider that the Texas CSCOPE Review, an independent watchdog group, uncovered an out-of-date, optional CSCOPE lesson-plan on terrorism — “World History Unit 12 Lesson 07″ — which allegedly likens the Boston Tea Party to “an act of terrorism.”

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted 267-151 on Wednesday to approve a $982-billion continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through the rest of fiscal 2013 that fully funds the implementation of Obamacare during that period.
