Vote Now at TedCruz.orgVote Now at TedCruz.org: Should the U.S. Send $250 Million to Egypt While Threatening to Cut Vital Services at Home?

Posted March 6, 2013

President Obama says the only way to cut 2.4% from the federal budget is to fire police officers, firefighters, teachers, and air traffic controllers…and yet this week Secretary of State John Kerry announced he’s sending another $250 million in aid to Egypt.

Do you think we should be sending that money to Egypt–without any preconditions–while at the same time threatening to cut vital services at home?

Where do you think that $250 million should go instead?

Senator: White House Providing Us Memos to Justify Drone Use

Posted March 6, 2013

(TheBlaze/AP) — The Senate Intelligence Committee is scheduled to vote on President Barack Obama’s pick to lead the CIA after weeks of wrangling with the White House over access to top-secret information about the use of lethal drone strikes against terror suspects, and the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

On Tuesday, Feinstein announced that the White House is providing the panel with all of the top-secret Justice Department memos that justify the use of lethal drone strikes against terror suspects– including American citizens.

But Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) told Glenn Beck on radio Tuesday morning that the senator might break previously-unheard information about the American drone program later today.

Beck said of the potential announcement on radio: “If this is true, which Rand says it is, I think — maybe the biggest story in our lifetime?”

Today, House Conservatives Will Prove They Are the Problem

Posted March 6, 2013

Yesterday, the White House announced it would stop White House tours in response to sequestration.

Congressman Louie Gohmert of Texas responded by offering an amendment to the pending continuing resolution that would prohibit federal dollars spent to cover the costs of President Obama’s golf games.

Speaker John Boehner and the Republican Leaders ruled that Congressman Gohmert’s amendment was not relevant to the continuing resolution and threw it out.

Today, House conservatives will join with their Republican colleagues to vote on what is called a “closed rule.” This is a vote that will allow Republican leaders to bring to the floor of the House of Representatives the continuing resolution without having to deal with Congressman Gohmert’s amendment.

It will also prevent Republicans from being able to defund Obamacare.

Today, House Republicans will vote on a rule in the House of Representatives that, once approved, will allow the continuing resolution to pass while enabling and funding Obamacare.

House Conservatives will make it happen. In fact, House Conservatives who vote for the rule are voting to fund Obamcare. Passing the rule then conveniently voting against the actual continuing resolution cannot be given a pass.

Internal doc reveals ICE plan to release thousands of illegal immigrants

Posted March 6, 2013

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte on Tuesday released an internal U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) document showing that the agency planned to release thousands of illegal aliens from detention centers in response to cuts resulting from sequestration.

The document revealed that from Feb. 15 to March 31, 2013, ICE planned to release 1,000 detainees a week, reducing their detainee numbers from 30,748 to 26,748 — well below the 34,000 mandated by Congress, Goodlatte noted.

“An internal document obtained by the House Judiciary Committee shows that Administration officials at ICE prepared cold calculations to release thousands of criminal aliens onto the streets and did not demonstrate any consideration of the impact this decision would have on the safety of Americans,” Goodlatte said in a statement, asserting that the decision “undermines” the Department of Homeland Security’s mission and makes Americans “less safe.”

Salazar: 28% of ‘Recoverable Oil ‘ Now Off-Limits in National Petroleum Reserve

Posted March 6, 2013

(CNSNews.com) – Outgoing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar signed a directive that places 28 percent of the “estimated economically recoverable oil” in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska off-limits. The 22.8-million acre reserve in Alaska’s North Slope has been protected as an oil resource for the United States since 1923.

Salazar signed the Record of Decision (ROD) on Feb. 21, marking the first time a plan has been implemented to regulate all of the reserve, including the decision to “protect” some of the land for Native Alaskans and wildlife.

Colorado lawmakers advance gun control bills

Posted March 5, 2013

DENVER (AP) — Firearm restrictions pitched by Colorado Democrats advanced Monday, as the battle over them intensified with hundreds of gun rights supporters cramming the state Capitol and circling the building all day with car horns blaring. Inside, the husband of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords urged lawmakers to pass universal background checks and victims of mass shootings in Connecticut and a suburban Denver movie theater pleaded for more gun controls.

Colorado has become a focus point in the national debate over what new laws, if any, are needed to prevent gun violence in the wake of recent mass shootings, including an attack at a suburban Denver movie theater last summer — a massacre that brought to mind the Columbine High School shooting of 1999 for many in the state and across the nation.

Lawmakers in the politically moderate state are considering a package of gun control measures, including plans that would limit ammunition magazines to 15 rounds and expand background checks to include private sales and online purchases. Both measures cleared Democratic-controlled committees on 3-2 party-line votes but still need approval from the full Senate, which could debate the bills as soon as this week.

VA governor gets devoured for massive transportation tax hikes

Posted March 5, 2013 - Terri Hall

Houston, we have a problem. Well, actually, it’s a nationwide problem. Gas tax, the primary user fee that funds our national interstate highway system, hasn’t been raised in 20 years. The same is true for the gas tax in most states, where gas tax is the primary source of revenue to fund each state’s highway system. Politicians refuse to raise or even index the gas tax to inflation, but Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell just signed into law some solutions that have gotten him in hot water with taxpayers despite it involving the repeal of the state’s gas tax. It’s been called the largest tax increase in the Commonwealth’s history -- $6 billion. Even worse for McDonnell is he ran on a ‘no new taxes pledge.’

We Have Ted Cruz's List: Harvard Law Really Is Littered with Communists

Posted March 6, 2013

It turns out Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was correct when he claimed Harvard Law School had significant numbers of what might reasonably be called "communists."

Anyone who knows the Ivy League knows the question shouldn't be, Who at Harvard is Marxist? but Who at Harvard isn't Marxist?

Cruz, a U.S. senator for almost two months now, made the offending statement in a speech almost three years ago.  He described Barack Obama as "the most radical" president "ever to occupy the Oval Office."

Obama "would have made a perfect president of Harvard Law School" because "there were fewer declared Republicans in the faculty when we were there than communists!" said Cruz.  "There was one Republican. But there were 12 who would say they were Marxists who believed in the communists' overthrowing the United States government."

No more golf for Obama until White House tours resume, Gohmert says

Posted March 6, 2013

In response to an announcement by the White House that it will end public tours due to sequestration, Rep. Louie Ghomert, R-Texas, filed an amendment  to the House GOP’s six-month continuing resolution that would prevent President Obama from using federal dollars to go golfing, a favorite pastime of his, until the tours are reinstated.

Gohmert’s amendment to H.R. 933 states:
“None of the funds made available by a division of this Act may be used to transport the president to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume.”

(Austin, TX) Late last week, Giovanni Capriglione filed HB 1938 which will ensure college students in Texas receive an education in American & Texas history prior graduating with their 4 years degree.

“The current language, requiring history to be taught to higher education students, is vague and doesn’t ensure actual American & Texas History is learned. If taxpayer dollars are going toward the education of students such requirements should be clearer."  commented Representative Capriglione.

A recent report on American History classes at the state's flagship universities showed an overemphasis on race, class, or gender that results in a less-than-comprehensive picture of U.S. History. HB 1938 re-enforces the initial intent of the 1971 law requiring students to earn six credits in American History.

“It’s imperative that we continue a culture of appreciating the history of our state and nation. Texas college students should receive a thorough overview of these courses prior to graduation.” the representative concluded.

Giovanni has been married for 12 years to his wife Elisa and has three children. More information regarding Giovanni can be found at http://www.votegiovanni.com/.

Ted Cruz and His Enemies

Posted March 6, 2013

In a column in the New Republic last month, John B. Judis laid into newly elected Senator Ted Cruz of Texas for asking Chuck Hagel, during his confirmation hearings to become secretary of defense, about his relationship with Chas Freeman. Hagel was chairman of the Atlantic Council and Freeman served on its board. Hagel brushed aside the question during his Senate hearing but did call Freeman a “respected public servant for this nation.” Freeman, you may recall, was Obama’s pick to chair the National Intelligence Council in 2009 but withdrew his name after controversy ensued over past statements. Freeman later blamed “the Israel lobby”—an unfortunate descriptor Hagel is also fond of—for torpedoing his nomination.

For having the temerity to ask Hagel about his relationship with Freeman, Cruz was reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, Judis declared: “Americans who worry about democracy need to keep on [Cruz]. He is a not dumb drunk [sic] like McCarthy.” Recall that one of the reasons Chas Freeman’s nomination faltered was that he had defended the Chinese government’s slaughter of students and activists in Tiananmen Square in unequivocal terms. To sum up, Cruz is a threat to democracy for daring to ask Hagel about his “respected” colleague who happened to defend a Communist state that has slaughtered its democratic activists. Got it.

One Texas teacher has thrown off her cloak of anonymity and is speaking openly about CSCOPE because she is afraid its curriculum will be whitewashed and recycled instead of kicked out of Texas schools.

Mary Bowen, a 30-year master’s level teacher with a specialty in curriculum and instruction, recently addressed the Texas Senate Education Committee and the State Board of Education on behalf of children.

She insists CSCOPE can’t be fixed.
