Tea Party Plans to Launch its Own Latino Outreach

Posted February 20, 2013

The Tea Party group that sponsored a prime-time response last week to President Obama's State of the Union address is the latest group recognizing the power of the Latino vote.

Officials with the Tea Party Express, the nation’s largest Tea Party political action committee, have been discussing their own Latino outreach, said Sal Russo, the group’s co-founder.

“We’ve been trying to do a bus tour that would focus on communities that we don’t normally talk to,” Russo said.

Documents: Hagel staffers met with ‘front group’ for Iranian regime

Posted February 20, 2013

Documents obtained by The Daily Caller show that staffers for then-Sen. Chuck Hagel met repeatedly with a controversial pro-Iran lobby group, and some met with the organization's president.

Hagel is President Barack Obama's choice to be the next secretary of defense. Arizona Sen. John McCain and other Republicans have conceded that a vote — and likely confirmation — will take place during the week of Feb. 25.

Iranian state-run media have referred to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC) since at least 2006 as “Iran’s lobby” in the U.S.

Media Pushes Government Grant-Taking Tea Party Opponent to McConnell

Posted February 20, 2013

Bevin is a massively wealthy owner of Bevin Brothers Manufacturing, a bell-making company based in Connecticut. Bevin has taken state grant money to rebuild its factor after a fire. United Kentucky Tea Party spokesman John Kemper had no idea who Bevin was, according to WFPL’s Phillip Bailey; neither did Northern Kentucky Tea Party President Larry Robinson. In 2010, Bevin made several contributions to Republican causes, including two sizeable contributions to Rand Paul late in the campaign; during the 2012 cycle, he gave some $9,000 to the Republican Party of Kentucky, and $2,500 to the Romney campaign.

Bevin may be a legitimate Tea Party candidate. He may not be. But the media’s early involvement in promoting potential rivals to McConnell may foreshadow a leftist attempt to back certain primary contenders in order to soften up general election targets on behalf of Democrats.

Having Added Record $5.9T to Debt, Obama Claims He’s Cut Deficit $2.5T

Posted February 20, 2013

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama claimed today that since he has been president both parties have worked together to cut the federal deficit by $2.5 trillion—despite the fact that the national debt has increased $5.9 trillion during Obama’s presidency, which is more than it increased under all presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton combined.
“Over the last few years both parties have worked together to reduce our deficits by more than $2.5 trillion,” Obama said in a speech at the White House in which he called on Congress to avoid modest automatic cuts in anticipated spending that are set to begin on March 1.

Does NBC hate Christians?

Posted February 20, 2013

I pondered that question  over the weekend as I sat on my couch and watched Saturday Night Live blaspheme Jesus Christ in a violent and bloody Quentin Tarantino parody - just three days after Ash Wednesday.

The fake movie trailer for "Djesus Uncrossed" featured the Savior brandishing guns and blowing away Romans in classic Tarantino-style. Blood and gore and profanity spewed from flat screens from coast to coast - at one point Jesus sliced a man's head in half.

"Critics are calling it a less violent 'Passion of the Christ,'" the announcer declared. "I never knew how much Jesus used the n-word."

Offending Christians is apparently what passes for entertainment these days.

WA Dems Sponsor Bill Allowing Police to Search Gunowners' Homes

Posted February 19, 2013

In a mistake that probably wasn’t a mistake, a Washington state bill sponsored by liberal Democrats contained a little-noticed provision that would have called for the police to have the right to search private citizens’ home once per year if they own certain types of guns. According to Senate Bill 5737:

In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall ... safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.

Obama's Justice Department: Gun Control Won't Work Without 'Mandatory' Confiscation [Video]

The wave is coming: Trade and debt will overwhelm Texas absent new funding (Photos)

Posted February 20, 2013
by Terri Hall

The eighth annual Texas Transportation Forum hosted by the Texas Transportation Institute and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) kicked off yesterday in Austin with all eyes on the future - the future of international trade in light of the Panama Canal expansion, the future of road funding, and even the future of driving (like driverless cars).

The big question the Panama Canal discussion tried to answer was whether or not Texas is ready for the coming tidal wave of trade and super-barges (and cargo that will be off-loaded onto super-trucks). The answer is ‘yes’ and ‘no.’

Texas Senators Slam State's Testing Regime

Posted February 20, 2013

tate senators took turns publicly condemning Texas' student assessment system — the implementation of which one lawmaker called a "colossal failure" —  at a Tuesday Education Committee meeting.

They had wide-ranging questions for officials from the Texas Education Agency and Pearson, the private company that holds a $468 million test-development contract with the state, on topics from the exam-scoring process to the tests' accuracy in measuring student comprehension.

"Either the teachers and the schools are doing a poor job of teaching the curriculum or you all are incorrect that these tests are accurate tests," said Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston and the committee's chairman, pressing for an explanation of students' low passing rates. "Which is it?"

Texas Independence Q&A

Texas Nationalist MovementThere are many questions regarding Texas independence that come up often and need to be addressed in order to separate fact from fiction. The Texas Nationalist Movement led by Daniel Miller has put together a compilation of those questions and the answers to them and we will be posting them here for your convenience.

If Texas gains its independence won't the U.S. invade?

Maybe. That’s up to the Federal Government. But we suggest that the Federal Government think long and hard about the ramifications of such an action.

First, Texas independence will be gained through a recognized, legally-obtained, popular vote of the people. This process has been recognized by the United States Federal Government world-wide for over 60 years and was, most recently, given to the people of Puerto Rico. Any attempt to interfere with or violently suppress this referendum strips the Federal Government of any moral authority on the issue and places them on par with Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, Communist China and a whole string of autocratic, dictatorial regimes throughout history which would serve to completely destroy the Union and finally end the pretense of a Constitutional Republic.

All eyes on Texas, S.C. church property fights

Posted February 20, 2013

When disgruntled congregations have left hierarchical denominations such as the Episcopal Church, they've often lost property battles as civil courts ruled buildings and land are not theirs to keep.

But outcomes could be different this year, court watchers say, as high-profile cases involving dozens of Episcopal congregations in South Carolina and Texas wind their way through state courts. That prospect has observers watching for insights that could shape legal strategies in other states and denominations.

Both cases involve conservative dioceses that voted to leave the Episcopal Church over homosexuality, among other issues. In South Carolina, congregations representing about 22,000 people are suing the Episcopal Church for control of real estate worth some $500 million and rights to the diocese's identity.

In Texas, the national Episcopal Church is suing about 60 breakaway congregations in the Fort Worth area for properties estimated to be worth more than $100 million.

Senator Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz Gambles

Newly-minted U.S. Senator Ted Cruz is risking his political career by, as the New York Times reports, “taking confrontational Tea Party sensibilities to new heights.”

Times’ Jonathan Weisman calls Cruz “Washington’s new bad boy.” (Begs the question: Who was the old one?”)

Weisman adds that, “[E]ven some Republican colleagues are growing publicly frustrated with a man who has taken the zeal of the prosecutor and applied it to the decorous quarters of the Senate.”

Oh, oh. Ted’s in trouble now. He’s embarrassing the Old Guard by being indecorously zealous. And what’s more, he’s being disagreeable, according to another prestigious news outlet. Read More...
