Inside the Tea Party Patriots’ plan to launch a super PAC

Posted February 12, 2013

Tea Party Patriots is getting its own super PAC.

Since bursting onto the political scene in 2009, the national grassroots coalition has organized rallies against President Barack Obama's health care law, promoted tea party issues and helped local tea party groups. But it has never meddled in specific races.

But that's changing now, as Tea Party Patriots looks to stay relevant and make its mark on the elections in 2014 and 2016. The coordinators of the organization voted at the end of last year to establish a federal super PAC, the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund.

"I think this is a natural evolution for our organization," Jenny Beth Martin, one of the founders of the organization, said in a phone interview with The Daily Caller on Monday.

Why do civilians need assault weapons?

Posted February 12, 2013

The two strongest reasons for civilians to own assault weapons are self-defense and defense against tyranny.

One self-defense situation that comes to mind is the L.A. riots.  Who can forget the nightly news's live footage of thugs hurling rocks at passing cars, buildings on fire, and looters smashing storefront windows?  Then there was the savage beating of truck driver Reginald Denny.

What was stunningly absent from the video footage?  There were no police or fire personnel.

For those of you who can stomach watching the State of the Union address tonight, here's a way to have a little fun with it. Courtesy of the Texas Patriots Tea Party, here are some BINGO cards you can use during tonight's address. They contain all the familiar phrases such as "fair share", "education", "let me be perfectly clear", "infrastructure", and all the greatest hits of the Obama administration.

There is also a "build your own" BINGO card for you to add your own phrases prior to the address.
It's not a matter of IF you'll BINGO, but how many times you will.

As an alternative, for those of you who cannot stomach watching the State of the Union address, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is airing on the USA Network.

Green energy grant recipient fined for paying employees in pesos

Posted February 12, 2013

A fuel cell manufacturer that received more than $70 million in federal grants has been fined for illegally paying employees in pesos.

The Labor Department announced last week that it was ordering Bloom Energy—the board of which includes former Secretary of State Colin Powell and Democratic mega-donor John Doerr—to pay $70,000 in back wages and fines in a case one labor official called “appalling.”

The Mercury News reports:

Authorities said Bloom Energy paid the Mexican workers in pesos by wiring funds back to bank accounts in Chihuahua. Bloom also paid for the men to stay in a Sunnyvale motel and provided each with a meal stipend of $50 a day.

But their pay amounted to less than a third of the minimum wage required under federal law, [Labor Department spokeswoman Deanne] Amaden said. Labor investigators also found the men worked an average of 51 hours a week but were not paid the legally required overtime rate when they worked beyond 40 hours a week.

Putin Turns Black Gold to Bullion as Russia Outbuys World

Posted February 11, 2013

When Vladimir Putin says the U.S. is endangering the global economy by abusing its dollar monopoly, he’s not just talking. He’s betting on it.

Not only has Putin made Russia the world’s largest oil producer, he’s also made it the biggest gold buyer. His central bank has added 570 metric tons of the metal in the past decade, a quarter more than runner-up China, according to IMF data compiled by Bloomberg. The added gold is also almost triple the weight of the Statue of Liberty.

Westford, MA considering gun ban

Posted February 11, 2013

The small town of Westford is considering a ban on the possession of assault weapons, machine guns, and large-capacity firearms and ammunition, igniting a local debate normally reserved for state or national politics.

The measure, if it survives a review by Westford selectmen, would go before Town Meeting, which begins March 23. No other town has tried such a ban, according to the state attorney general’s office, which has to approve new or revised bylaws.

(Austin, TX) Giovanni Capriglione continues to make his mark on the legislature, filing HB 974, a bill adding the online posting of a check registrar as an indicator for the School FIRST Rating Worksheet of the Texas Education Agency.

“The FIRST program is designed to grade school districts on their financial integrity.

Showing the taxpayers how districts are spending their money by making their check registers available online should absolutely be one of the criteria used by the TEA,"  commented Representative Capriglione.

The School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or School FIRST, a financial accountability system for Texas school districts, was developed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in response to legislation passed in 1999.

“Transparency should be encouraged at every level of government. It is imperative that we take advantage of the 83rd session to promote transparency and accountability through the promotion of legislation like HB 974,” the representative concluded.

Giovanni has been married for 12 years to his wife Elisa and has three children. More information regarding Giovanni can be found at http://www.votegiovanni.com/.

A suit was filed in the Third Court of Appeals in Austin Friday asking the Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the Brady City Council or City Secretary to order a recall election of Mayor Gail Lohn.

The suit is a response to the vote Feb. 5th by the Council upholding a decision by City Secretary Christy Badilla and Interim City Attorney Monte Akers that the petition filed on Jan. 25 seeking a recall election of Mayor Lohn was "insufficient."
