Robert Gonzalez - Tea Party Candidate Supported for the United States Congress District 24 in the 2012 Elections

“Robert Gonzalez is the representation this country needs. He is not the type of man to be enticed by the ‘system’ or the 'establishment'. He is running for the US House because he fully understands the tailspin our country is in and without principled leadership, the United States of America we know and love will be gone forever. I unequivocally endorse Robert Gonzalez for the US House of Representatives in District 24 of the great state of Texas.” ~ Michael Kinzie, Founder

Gonzalez declares candidacy for Unites States Congress in District 14

(FRIENDSWOOD, TX.) – Long time Friendswood resident Robert Gonzalez announced his candidacy today for the United States Congress in District 14. Gonzalez seeks to fill the seat currently held by Ron Paul, who earlier this year announced his retirement. Paul is currently running for President of the United States.

Gonzalez was born in Cuba, and spent the first 8 years of his life there before legally immigrating to the United States. Growing up in a communist country, and seeing firsthand the devastating effect that living under totalitarian rule has on people, has helped shape who Gonzalez is, and also provides the fuel for his entry in the Congressional race.

“I know what socialism looks like because I lived it for 8 years, and I see some of the same things happening in the United States as happened in Cuba. America is at a crossroads, and after truly living the American dream, I can no longer sit back and let what happened in Cuba happen here. I love America far too much to stand on the sidelines, and I intend for my Congressional run to sound an alarm with the American people that we can indeed lose our liberty if we do not fight to protect it”, Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez is currently the chairman of the Clear Lake Tea Party, and along with his wife of 28 years, Lisa, co-founded the group in 2009. The Clear Lake Tea Party is one of the most active and influential Tea Party organizations in the nation, with a membership of nearly 2,000 people.

In 1968, the Gonzalez family settled in Portland, Oregon where they learned the American language and culture. In 1977, Gonzalez’ parents moved to Houston, Texas where Robert graduated from Milby High School in 1978, and later earned an Associates of Science Degree in instrumentation Technology from San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas in 1981. After graduating from college, Robert began his employment with Tenneco Chemicals Corporation as an Instrument Technician. In 1984, Tenneco Chemicals was purchased by Occidental Chemicals (OXY), and in the same year Robert was promoted as a Systems Analyst. Robert is now involved in Process Control Engineering and is an integral part of OXY’s many successes in safety, production and care of the environment. Robert completed his 30th year of service with OXY in 2011.

Gonzalez has called in sick one day in 30 years, and instead of being lauded for that, Gonzalez says he was only doing his job and living up the commitment he made to the company that employs him.

“The way I see it, my company pays me to work, not to stay at home. I feel like I owe a great deal of loyalty to my employer, and I will treat my constituents the exact same way once in Congress. Most politicians are worried about the next election, whereas I am worried about the next generation. I will go to Washington and stand on principle, make the tough choices, and let the chips fall where they may. If that means going against the Republican Leadership, I am willing to do so if they are not on the side of the people”, Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez says he is fully aware of the enormous sacrifice this campaign will require, but he is willing to go through it for his children, Beni and Felisa.

“America is the greatest nation on God’s green earth, and has given me the chance to live out my dreams; therefore I am willing to do whatever it takes to make sure our future generations have that same opportunity. Without a strong and revitalized United States of America, the world will be a much darker place. America has always provided the beacon of light for people around the globe, and I fully intend to see to it that the torch of liberty is not extinguished on my watch”, Gonzalez went on to say.
