Republican Challenger for Texas State Senate, District 2, files complaint against Navigators with Texas Department of Insurance

Sulphur Springs, TX, November 18, 2013 – Today, Robert Lee “Bob” Hall, a challenger in the Republican primary for District 2, Texas State Senate, filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance concerning ObamaCare Navigator organizations working in Texas under contract to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Hall’s complaint comes in the wake of two videotapes recently released on the internet that document multiple Navigators counseling Texas insurance consumers to continue to under-report their income to the Internal Revenue Service.

Hall’s complaint also noted that the videos suggest that Navigators, and other persons representing organizations under HSS contract, are coordinating their efforts with partisan groups associated with the Democrat Party, potentially constituting illegal activities.

Hall suggested that the TDI investigate the Navigator organizations to determine if they are violating state law, and if found to be doing so, forward that information to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

In the complaint Hall noted that the “Compact with Texans, Customer Service Principles” posted on the TDI website state that: “At the Texas Department of Insurance we recognize our responsibilities to both consumers and the insurance industry. We work to fulfill our legislative mandate to regulate the insurance industry while protecting the people and businesses that are served by insurance. We pledge to provide high quality service to all our customers.”

Hall will likely face 2nd District incumbent and fellow Republican Bob Deuell in the G.O.P. primary. Deuell was a key supporter of Texas Senate bill 1795 that relates to the regulation of navigators for health benefit exchanges in Texas.
