Why We OPPOSE Joe Straus

Joe Straus vs. Matt Beebe

We lost the battle of getting Ken Paxton elected as the Texas Speaker of the House for the 82nd legislature, but that does not mean we have given up.

We now are working to not only prevent Joe Straus from becoming the Texas Speaker of the House for the 83rd legislature, but to prevent his re-election to the Texas House of Representatives.
TEAParty911.com founder, Michael Kinzie has endorsed Matt Beebe in HD-121 and we are all working hard to get Beebe elected to rid the House of Representatives of Joe Straus.

Why we OPPOSE JOE STRAUS
as the next Speaker of the Texas House

Joe Straus - Texas House Speaker
Joe Straus (RINO)

NINE REASONS

  1. STRAUS’ ELECTION AS SPEAKER IN 2009: The offensive manner Straus became Speaker last time:  11 Rino Republicans and ALL of the Democrats trashed former Republican Speaker Tom Craddick and elected Joe Straus.
  1. STRAUS’ LIBERAL AND RINO APPOINTMENTS: The liberal agenda and emphasis that Straus placed on the last legislature through his appointments of liberal committee chairmen allowed Democrats to pass more of their agenda under Straus’s leadership than when even the house was controlled by the Democrats. Straus appointed 20 Democrats to Committee Chairmanships and even some were given more than one chair. The other committee appointments went to Rino Republicans. Out of 150 Texas Representatives, 33 had a percentage score of 80 % or higher, but nobody of the Crew of 11 Republicans that elected Straus even came close to an 80% rating.  Straus did not appoint as chairman any representative, like Ken Paxton, with conservative scores above 90%.
  2. STRAUS IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE AND IS SOFT ON TRADITIONAL VALUES: Contrary to his claim otherwise, Joe Straus is not a strong conservative.  During the last legislative session he was rated at 52% by the Heritage Alliance and that is the 2nd WORST voting record among Republicans: Speaker Straus is NOT Pro-Life. Planned Parenthood honored Straus in 2009 for his efforts and NARAL gave him a 100% rating from their organization. Many pro-life bills were killed or delayed under Straus leadership.  “Speaker Straus, with his public pro-abortion position, is out of step on the issue of life according to a Gallop poll that shows that the majority of Americans are pro-life.” Cathie Adams

  1. STRAUS’s STRONG ARM TACTICS AND QUID PRO QUO APPROACH TO HIS SPEAKER ELECTION: Straus gave Republican members financial support and huge donations in exchange for their pledge to support him as speaker. Straus funded Rino Republicans and even Republicans in uncontested races.  Also, true Conservatives do not campaign for left-wing propagandists. Joe Straus did. Straus helped Democrat Rose instead of Isaac and Chuck Hopson [Democrat turned Republican] over true conservatives Michael Banks or Allen Cain. The Straus-appointed House Ethics panel received donations from Straus. Could this panel be an objective judge of ethics charges against Straus?  Straus intimidated conservative Republican legislators and “outside” tea party organizations as indicated that they were “hijacking” the election process.
  2. STRAUS’ SPEAKER CANDIDACY HAS GENERATED A NASTY TENOR: The vindictive and disruptive environment Straus has created around the Speaker election both in 2009 and in 2010 is enough to not want him as Speaker; Straus even admits to the “nasty tenor of this race”. Straus is lashing out at "outside forces" [e.g., tea parties, 912 groups] engaged in the discussion about who should be speaker of the 99-seat Republican majority.  Straus believes these groups are disrupting the process.  These groups have every legal right to engage in the discussions.
  3. STRAUS DOESN’T APPEAR TO BE MEETING SPEAKER’s RESPONSIBILITIES:  keep his promises to the voters, protect the integrity of the House of Representatives and its members.
  4. STRAUS DOES NOT SUPPORT A REPUBLICAN CAUCUS: Straus’ lack of support for a Republican Caucus to select House Speaker. With a 2/3rds majority in the House, Republicans have every right to select their speaker without the other party’s involvement.
  5. STRAUS’ LIBERAL LEGISLATION UNDER STRAUS LEADERSHIP: Together, Straus and the Democrats killed almost all conservative legislation and passed more liberal bills than when the Democrats were in the majority.  More astonishingly was what was not passed by the Straus/liberal Rino/Democrat house:  No bills on pro-life, anti-immigration, voter ID, protection of private property, gun rights, nullification, anti-Obamacare;  Straus supported bills to perform late-term abortions easier, sex education in public schools, embryonic stem cell research, homosexuals as foster parents, casinos and gaming; Straus opposed strengthening marriage and reducing divorce, parental rights with school counselors, school choice, voter ID, sonograms prior to abortion.
  6. STRAUS’ ETHICAL ISSUES RELATED TO HIS PLEDGE LIST: It is curious how the recent ethics charges against Larry Phillips was handled by the Vice Chairman of the House Ethics Committee, Larry Phillips.  Straus allowed this type of kangaroo court to exist:
