  • What if Speaker Straus Gets Indicted? - One possible storm cloud hanging over this "golden" opportunity during the 82nd legislative session for Conservatives is the real threat of indictment of Speaker Joe Straus, should he be voted in as Speaker on Tuesday. Leo Berman, (R-Tyler), has filed criminal charges against Straus with the Public Integrity Unit of the Travis County District Attorney's office for alleged use of money to buy votes. According to Rep. Berman, he is in contact with the Travis County District Attorney's office "at least once per week". Berman states that he has been told the District Attorney's office is investigating this matter and does not want to make its ruling prior to Tuesday so as not to influence the race for Speaker of the House. The North Texas Navigator News placed a call to the Public Integrity Unit and was told that the Executive Director, Greg Cox, had no comment. A voice mail was left for Mr. Cox with no return call as of yet.
  • Denton County Chairman Responds to Crownover - What is "conservative"? In Texas, it seems that every Republican running for office calls himself or herself a "pro-life conservative." Luckily, we don't have to rely on their self-definition once they are in office, as we can tell by their votes if they indeed deserve that title of "conservative" and "pro-life." Please allow me a moment to give you some accurate information that pertains to the hotly contested Speaker's race in the Texas House of Representatives. My message is a bit lengthy, but it's important and it's not just my opinion: It contains documented facts.
  • Joe Straus Turns to Democrats for Support in Texas House Speaker Race! - Texas Rep. Wayne Christian (R-Center ) asked an attorney to research the information being circulated by former Speaker Rayford Price (D - Palestine ) and by Rep. Deshotel (D - Beaumont ). Rayford Price was the Democrat Speaker of the House for only one year (1972-73); and he formed a law firm with Ray Hutchison, U. S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's husband. Rayford Price practices law in Austin . For some reason, the Austin American-Statesman on 1.3.11 decided to turn to Democrat Rayford Price for his opinion on the Republican Caucus to be held on Jan. 10 in Austin . It is at this Caucus that the Republicans are scheduled to select the person they intend to support for the Speaker when a full vote on the House floor is taken on Jan. 11.
  • Battle for Texas Speaker of the House - Action Required! - Today we are embroiled in a battle for the Texas Speaker of the House. Joe Straus voted into office in 2009 by Democrats and 11 RINO's is ignoring the fact that on November 2nd Texans sent a clear message that conservatives want a conservative Speaker of the House. In fact 82 of the 99 representatives are solid conservatives. Besides his pretentious stance on family values and the fact that Voter ID failed to pass during the last session, we have the critical assignment of redistricting this coming session and Republicans must chair the committee. by Sonja Harris
